College of Mount Saint Vincent Hosts Award-Winning Author Jess Row

Novelist Jess Row to Read from His Works, Part of “Writers at the Mount” Series

Riverdale, N.Y. – In the last two years, the Writers at the Mount series has brought novelists Karen Shepard, Myla Goldberg, Darin Strauss, and Josh Weil to the Mount Saint Vincent campus for readings and craft talks. This year, the University of Mount Saint Vincent kicks off the 2015 series by welcoming award-winning novelist Jess Row to campus on February 25. Mr. Row will read from his novel Your Face in Mine—named one of this year’s “TOP 10 First Novels” by Booklist. The event will take place in Cahill Theater at 5:30 p.m., and is free and open to the public.

Mr. Row, a short story writer and novelist, published his first novel, Your Face in Mine, in August 2014. His short story collection, The Train to Lo Wu, was published in 2005, and was later shortlisted for the PEN/Hemingway Award and was a finalist for the Kiriyama Prize. In 2007 he was named a “Best Young American Novelist” by Granta. His second collection of stories, Nobody Ever Gets Lost, appeared in 2011.

His stories have appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Tin House, Conjunctions, Ploughshares, GrantaAmerican Short Fiction, Harvard Review, have been anthologized three times in The Best American Short Stories, and have won two Pushcart Prizes and a PEN/O. Henry Award. He has also received an NEA fellowship in fiction and a Whiting Writers Award. His nonfiction and criticism appear in The New York Times Book Review, Bookforum, Threepenny Review, and Boston Review.

Mr. Row is an associate professor of English at the College of New Jersey and a member of the international faculty of the M.F.A. program at the City University of Hong Kong. His visit to the Mount campus will include a private meeting with student writers prior to the evening reading.
