CMSV Responds to Typhoon Haiyan
11/12/2013 - Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent is responding to the devastating tragedy in the Philippines by raising funds for Concern Worldwide, the College’s official charity.

More than $1,000 has been already raised by the College in response to Typhoon. The Filipino student group SAMAHAN (Students at the Mount Advancing their Humanity and Nationality) are joining the Office of Student Activities and the Office of Campus Ministry to mobilize student participation through a variety of fundraisers.

The mission of Concern Worldwide is to transform the lives of the world’s poorest people. Concern Worldwide already has staff on the ground in this emergency appeal and is responding with water, sanitation, food, and other basic necessities.

More than ten percent of the students enrolled at the College of Mount Saint Vincent are of Filipino descent and are a vibrant part of the Mount community. Several prominent College of Mount Saint Vincent alumnae/i have close connections to the area, including the late Corazon Aquino‘53, the first female President of the Philippines.

The College invites the local community to donate online. Contributions may be also sent via check to the College of Mount Saint Vincent with "Concern Filipino Relief" in the memo.

In response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the College of Mount Saint Vincent partnered with Concern and raised over $5,000 to the relief efforts.
