Maloney Collects Two Individual Victories At Skyline Championships; Named Rookie of the Year
2/4/2013 - Purchase, N.Y. – College of Mount Saint Vincent freshman Erin Maloney (Staten Island, N.Y.) won two individual events on Friday at the Skyline Conference Championships on her way to being named First Team All-League and Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year. The Dolphins placed fifth at the event with a total of 39 points.
Maloney, a two-time Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, earned first place points for the Dolphins on Friday in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke. Her winning time in the 100-yard event was 1:06.42 and she followed that up by besting the field in the 200-yard race in 2:24.34. She closed out an impressive evening for the Mount with fourth place showing in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:13.11.
Sophomore Brook Baltazar (Wilmington, Del.) picked up a fourth and fifth place finish for the Mount at the championships. She touched out in fourth in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:39.37 and touched the wall in fifth in a time of 1:23.55 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Junior Janna Libby (Freeport, Maine) earned a fourth place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:11.87 on Friday and she was followed closely by Michelle Cardona (Bergenfield, N.J.) who placed fifth in 1:12.36.
Mount Saint Vincent also had a strong showing in the relay events on Friday, picking up a fourth place finish in both the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle races. The medley squad of Maloney, Baltazar, Cardona and Libby posted a time of 2:06.85, while the freestyle unit of Cardona, Kristen Von Dollen (Tappan Zee, N.Y.) and Baltazar finished in 4:29.69.
The 2013 Skyline Conference Championships wraps up the season for the Dolphins. The Mount closes the year with a 4-6 record in duel meet competition.
