Ashleigh Scozzari Named Skyline Conference Rookie Of The Year; Earns First Team All-League Honors
11/14/2012 - New York, N.Y. – College of Mount Saint Vincent freshman Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) has been named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year in Women's Volleyball and has earned First Team All-Skyline Conference Honors it was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. 2012 marks the third straight year the Dolphins have been represented on the First Team.
Scozzari had a standout year for the Mount, leading it to its second straight appearance in the Skyline Conference Tournament. Scozzari led the Dolphins in 2012 in overall kills with 232 and was second on the squad in kills per set with 2.37. She also paced the Mount in total blocks with 67 and points with 289.
In the Skyline Conference rankings, Scozzari led all players in total blocks per set with 0.68, while ranking eighth in both points and kills. Her offensive output in 2012 saw her become the first Mount Saint Vincent player to record at least 200 winners in a season since head coach Meghan Flaherty '08 posted 268 during the 2007 campaign.
The 5-9 middle hitter totaled double figures in kills 13 times in 2012, including a career-high 16 winners on two occasions. She also picked up at least once block 25 times and posted a career-high seven on September 25 against Sage.
Scozzari appeared in 98 of the team's 99 sets as a rookie and finished up the season with a .166 hitting percentage to go along with five assists, four service aces and 57 digs. She was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week on September 17.
Mount Saint Vincent closed the season with an 11-17 overall record and a 4-5 mark against Skyline Conference opponents.
