Patrick Dietz Promoted To Head Men's Volleyball Coach
7/23/2012 - Riverdale, N.Y. – College of Mount Saint Vincent Director of Athletics John 'Jay' Butler has announced the promotion of Patrick Dietz from assistant to Head Men's Volleyball Coach. Dietz will lead the Dolphins starting in the 2013 season and will begin his second stint at the helm of the program.

“The College of Mount Saint Vincent did not have to look far to appoint its new men's volleyball coach. Former Assistant Coach, Patrick Dietz, will assume the duties of head coach.  Patrick is volleyball professional.  He is passionate about the sport of volleyball and training his student-athletes to reach higher levels of competition.  The College of Mount Saint Vincent men's volleyball program will become a regional and national power with his tutelage,” stated Butler.

Dietz also led the Dolphins for three seasons starting in 2003, compiling an overall record of 57-46. He led the Mount to AVCA National Rankings in each of the three seasons, including 11th in 2005.

Upon his promotion Dietz stated, “I am honored to be back home. Thank you to John 'Jay' Butler for giving me a chance to be at the helm again. Thank you to Michael Quinn for bringing me back home and thank you to Dr. Dianna Dale for believing in me.”

“This is where my career started almost 10 years ago and the experiences back then, give way to the awesome experiences now,” Dietz continued. “It is my goal and the goal of all the members of this team, both players and administrators, to recapture the energy this program once had and we are on a good road to that.”

Dietz concluded, “We have a solid core of young talent returning, lead by Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) and Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.). The recruits we have coming in this school year will help fortify our roster. The sky is the limit and I can wait to get started.”

After leaving the Mount following the 2005 campaign, Dietz went on to take over the men's and women's programs at New York City Tech. Dietz was at the helm of the women's program from 2005-07 and led the men's squad in 2006 and 2007.

Most recently, Dietz served and the mentor of the Concordia College women's program, leading the Clippers in the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

While serving as a head coach over the course of his career, Dietz has been responsible for recruiting, fund raising and the day-to-day running of the program. He has improved retention and each of his stops and increased the roster size from year to year.

Also involved at the adult club level, Dietz runs the Empire Volleyball Club. His squad placed 15th this past year at the USA Open Nationals held in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Dietz returned to the Mount in 2012 and served as an assistant coach and helped the Dolphins record top-20 national rankings in aces and digs per set. He also served as a mentor to Kolody who finished the season ninth in the country in digs per set and joined Chris Bacchi as a Second Team All-Skyline Conference selection.

A standout player over his collegiate career, Dietz was a two time All-CUNYAC and All-NECVA Selection. He was named the NECVA Offensive Player of the Year in 2000, just one of two players to earn the honor out of the CUNYAC, and was the national leader in kills per set in both 1999 and 2000.

Dietz helped Mount Saint Vince to an 11-16 overall record in 2012.
