Red Monkey Theater Group Presents Neil Simon’s Laughter on the 23rd Floor

Riverdale, N.Y. – The University of Mount Saint Vincent’s resident theater company Red Monkey Theater Group (RMTG) will present Neil Simon’s Laughter on the 23rd Floor April 18-26 in the College’s Cahill Theater. Friday and Saturday’s performances are at 8 p.m., and Sunday’s performances are at 2 p.m. All shows are free for University of Mount Saint Vincent students and staff with ID. Tickets for the general public are $15-18.
The concluding installment in RMTG’s “Season Among Friends,” Laughter on the 23rd Floor is based on Neil Simon’s experiences working on The Sid Caesar Show and Your Show of Shows, two wildly popular television shows of the 1950s and 1960s. The stage in Cahill Theater is set to portray a besieged writers’ room during the golden age of TV comedy.
Director Carin Zakes directs a cast that includes Tal Aviezer, Justin Bennett, Matt Gordon, Peter Green, Joe Laureiro, Mike Marcou, Emma Miller, Monty Renfrow, and Ella Smith.
“Our intimately-staged production of Laughter on the 23rd Floor will bring the audience into a writer’s room full of extremely smart, funny, talented, and neurotic people,” said Tal Aviezer, Artistic Director of Red Monkey Theater Group. “It’s a voyeuristic experience to see comedic wit deployed at close range – sometimes savagely and sometimes tenderly. It also captures a very important cultural moment for American politics and entertainment. But above all, it’s a showcase for Neil Simon’s legendary humor. It’s a pleasure to be presenting the work of a Bronx-born genius right here in his native borough.”
