This summer thirty educators from Shenzhen, China arrived at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. For eight weeks they participated in the Shenzhen Teacher Training Program, a series of courses specially designed by the College for the visitors through the new Center for International Teacher Training.   (photo) A visiting teacher from Shenzhen performs a traditional Chinese dance at the program's farewell dinner.

flagBrian Johnson is frustrated with the media’s coverage of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, or lack of coverage as he would be quick to tell you. Assistant Director of Residence Life and Mount graduate class of 2006, Johnson saw a need to combat this lack of media coverage. He, along with the Department of Residence Life, hosted a program with the USO entitled “United We Stand?” which offered students, faculty, and the general public a greater understanding of the effects of war on the American military, and provided a personal look at the men and women who courageously serve in war zones overseas. Boykin-TownsKaren Boykin-Towns was a business major at the College of Mount Vincent, class of 1987, and graduated cum laude.  Raised by her mother in Harlem, Ms. Boykin-Towns came from a strong family of limited resources and big ideas.  She was always told she could be anything she dreamed of being...but only if she worked hard and went to school. Opler bookAddressing a room full of students, many of them history majors, Dr. Daniel Opler, history professor at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, appeared to hold court.  The students were gathered in the President’s Reception Room for a panel discussion of his recently published book, For All-White Collar Workers, The Possibilities of Radicalism in New York City's Department Store Unions, 1934-1953.  More...
KateThis May, Kaitlin Christi Burud, ‘08 (B.S. Business Administration), was honored with the first of its kind, the College of Mount Saint Vincent’s Marketsmith, Inc. Award for Entrepreneurship. The award is given to the student who produces the best original business plan from among those submitted that year.  Ms. Burud was singled out for her in-depth proposal of a sports-themed day care center.  She completed her project while enrolled in the College’s course in Entrepreneurial Studies.  Along with the accolades she also received  a $5,000 prize.  More...
ChemThe design for Phase II of construction for the new chemistry laboratories in the Science Building includes a plan for going very small…and green.  Of the two planned laboratories, one will be a General Chemistry Teaching Lab and the other will be an Organic Chemistry Microscale Lab.  More...
ElectionStudents are a prized voter demographic but are notoriously difficult to reach.  As a voting group, they face unique obstacles, and often find the process confusing and overwhelming.  In order to allay those issues, the College has created campus programming with local politicians, partnered with CICU, the Council on Independent Colleges and Universities, and has made forays into the world of online social networking, all in an attempt to make it easier for students to register and vote.  More...
