Can I borrow a book?

Any student or faculty member with a valid ID card from CMSV or Manhattan College may borrow materials from the Elizabth Seton Library. IDs must bear validation for the current semester.All IDs must have a library barcode.

Patrons are responsible for the books borrowed with their IDs.

**Exceptions:

  1. Patrons will be blocked from borrowing books if they have overdue books or owe fines.
  2. Reserve books may be borrowed for two hours by any student or faculty member with a valid ID card from CMSV or Manhattan College. Reserve books do not leave the library.


What is the DVD borrowing policy?

Loans available ONLY to students registered at the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
Loans are for 7 Days at NO cost. Three (3) rentals per student is permitted. There is a $5 service charge per item if returned late. Please check out DVDs no later than 15 minutes to closing time.

When are my books due back?

Circulating Books:

Students: four-week loan, with one four-week renewal. Due dates are stamped on the back of each book.

Faculty and Staff: fifteen-week loan.
All books are due back at the end of semester.

Reserve Books:

All patrons: two-hour loan, with possible renewal pending waiting list. Reserve books can be used only within the library.

 


Can I take out reference books, magazines/journals, and newspapers?

No. These items are only for use within the library.



Can I renew my book?

Any patron may renew any circulating book once, provided that a hold has not been put on that book by another patron and provided that the book is not more than five days overdue. Renewal loan period is the same as initial loan period.

 

How many books can I check out?

Patrons may borrow a maximum of TEN books at a time. Patrons may borrow up to TWO reserve items at a time.

 

The book I need is checked out! Can I place a hold on it?

Any patron can put a hold on a circulating book that is currently charged out. Holds may be placed in person or via the Elizabeth Seton Library Online Catalog. Holds cannot be placed on reserve books or books with the status: Available.

A book upon which a hold has been placed cannot be renewed.

When the book you placed on hold is returned, you will be notified via telephone.The book will be held at the Circulation Desk for 7 days.

 

What is the reserve collection?

The reserve collection includes books, articles, periodical issues, and sample exams which teaching faculty have requested to be kept for short-term use by their students. The Library also attempts to keep on reserve as many course textbooks and required reading materials as possible, whether requested by teaching faculty or not. The collection is updated every semester.

These reserve materials may be borrowed by any student or faculty member with a valid ID card from CMSV or Manhattan College. Only two items at a time, for a maximum of two hours, for use in the library only.

The reserve collection also includes some personal items needed by faculty to support various classroom activities (e.g., sample exams, articles, books). These materials are not cataloged and are general for use in the library only.

 

Do I have to pay fines on an overdue book?

First, you will be sent a courtesy reminder if an item is overdue.

If a book is not returned promptly upon receiving a courtesy reminder, you will be billed for the replacement cost of the item ($50.00), plus a non-refundable $5.00 service charge. Students with unpaid fines will be blocked from re-registration, graduation, and receipt of transcripts.

 


What if I lose a book?

Patron must pay the replacement cost of the item ($50.00), plus a non-refundable $5.00 service charge. If a patron replaces a lost book with new copy of the same book, the Library will waive the item fee, but NOT the $5.00 service charge.
