Making a Gift Through Your IRA
Under the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, Congress extended through December 31, 2013 the unique tax advantages that you obtain when you make your charitable gift directly from your IRA.
If you are age 70 ½ or older, you can direct transfers totaling up to $100,000 from your IRA to qualified charitable institutions, such as the College of Mount Saint Vincent, in 2013. The transfers will be totally tax-free to you and may go toward satisfying your required minimum distribution for 2013.
