Freshman Jessica McBain scored the game-winning goal in the 16th minute as the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team advanced to the HVWAC Finals with a 6-0 win over Marymount on Thursday.

The Mount gained the lead early when freshman Jessica McBain (Troy, NY/Troy HS) scored off of a loose-ball scramble in front of the goal during the 16th minute to make it 1-0 Mount Saint Vincent. However, despite a 22-0 shot advantage during the first half, the Dolphins held a slim 1-0 lead at halftime against an upstart Marymount squad.

Mount Saint Vincent changed things immediately after the second half began, scoring four times during a seven-minute span to blow the game wide open. Freshman Jennifer Lupero (Mamaroneck, NY/Rye Neck HS) opened the second half with her first career goal during the first minute of play to make it 2-0. Frank then scored on an outside shot four minutes later to make it 3-0, and the rout was on. Gentsch scored her first goal of the game less than a minute after Frank’s tally to make it 4-0, and then scored again two minutes later to extend the lead to 5-0. Frank concluded the scoring with a gorgeous goal in the 86th minute off of an assist by Cynthia Osorio (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside HS) for the 6-0 final.

Mount Saint Vincent dominated every facet of this game, outshooting the Saints, 40-1, and the Mount also took 12 corner kicks while Marymount did not take a single corner kick. Dolphin goalie Alexis Alessi (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside HS) earned her second consecutive shutout, and fourth shutout overall, with a one-save effort. Alessi has not allowed a goal in 254:32, dating back to a 1-0 loss to Manhattanville on Oct. 26.

For Marymount (2-7, 1-5 HVWAC), goalies Kati Rogers (Pembroke, NH) and Elizabeth Lewis (Tiverton, RI) gave the Saints a yeoman’s effort, combining for 21 saves.

Mount Saint Vincent last played the College of Staten Island on Oct. 23 when Staten Island defeated the Mount, 2-1. This is the Mount's first HVWAC Championship Game appearance since the 2002 season.
