Vita named HVWAC Rookie of the Week for Women’s Volleyball
Sophomore averaged more than three assists and two digs per game: Predergast named to Honor Roll
10/20/2005 - (Riverdale, NY) – Mount Saint Vincent sophomore setter Nicole Vita (Bordentown, N.J./John P. Stevens HS) was named the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Rookie of the Week for an outstanding effort in leading the Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Volleyball team to a 3-2 record last week. After not playing during her freshman season, Vita has been a revelation for the Mount in 2005, and last week had one of her finest weeks of the season, averaging 3.08 assists and 2.08 digs per game. During the stretch, Mount Saint Vincent defeated Maritime College, St. Elizabeth, and Pratt while falling to St. Joseph’s (LI) and Old Westbury.

For the season, Vita is second on the team with 192 assists and is also one of only five Dolphins to register more than 100 digs. Mount Saint Vincent is currently 10-17 overall and 1-6 in the Skyline Conference, but the Dolphins are currently 6-0 in HVWAC play and are tied for first place.

Also earning honors this week from the HVWAC was junior Roxanne Predergast (Center Moriches, NY/Westhampton Beach HS), who was named to the HVWAC Honor Roll. The outside hitter, who has been named HVWAC Player of the Week once – and to the Skyline Conference Honor Roll five times – this season, averaged 2.67 kills, 2.80 digs, and 0.45 service aces per game last week.

Mount Saint Vincent has lost two consecutive matches this week but will look to get back to their winning ways on Saturday when they travel to Centenary College for a 1:00 p.m. match. This will be the Mount’s final Skyline Conference match of the season.
