Gentsch scores twice as Mount Saint Vincent downs Marymount in Women’s Soccer
Dolphins improve to 5-4 overall; 2-0 in HVWAC
10/6/2005 - (Tarrytown, NY) – Sophomore Katherine Gentsch (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville HS) scored twice and the Mount Saint Vincent defense did not allow a single shot as the Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Soccer team won their second straight game, 5-0 over Marymount College. With the win, the Dolphins improve to 2-0 in the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC).

The game was simply dominated by the Mount, who out-shot Marymount, 31-0, and took 18 corner kicks to Marymount’s 0. After Gentsch scored in the 20th minute off of an assist by Marie Garcia (Medford, MA/Medford HS), the Mount practically put the game away 20 minutes later when Kaitlin Whalley (West Babylon, NY/St. John the Baptist HS) scored in transition for a 2-0 lead that remained through halftime.

The second half was much of the same as Gentsch scored her second goal of the game just five minutes in, while Katherine Endres (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and Katie Cusmiani (Belle Harbor, NY/Archbishop Molloy) each scored for the first time this season, and the lead was extended to 5-0. The shutout was Mount Saint Vincent’s first of the 2005 season.

Mount Saint Vincent is now 5-4 overall and will have some breathing room now as they are off until Wednesday, Oct. 12 when they travel to CCNY for their third straight HVWAC game. That game begins at 4:00 p.m.
