Mount Saint Vincent splits Baseball Doubleheader with Concordia
Dolphin pitching staff shines during Fall exhibition
10/2/2005 - (Bronxville, NY) – Mount Saint Vincent freshman pitcher Marco Giasulo (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains HS) and junior/transfer pitcher Joe Orgovan (Norwalk, CT/Rockland CC) turned in tremendous performances on the mound, and freshman catcher Mark Russell (Carmel,NY/Carmel HS) had an incredible day both at the plate and behind the plate, as the Mount Saint Vincent baseball team split a doubleheader with local Division II powerhouse, Concordia on Sunday at Concordia. The Dolphins dropped the opener, 7-0, before winning the second game, 7-3. The doubleheader marked the conclusion of the Mount’s Fall non-traditional season.

Pitching was the story of the day for the Mount as Orgovan and Giasulo combined to pitch four innings of shut-out ball and not allow a run. Combined with fine performances by sophomore pitchers Jon O’Leary (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot HS) and Ryan Strub (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot HS), and the Mount Baseball team appears to have a solid rotation developing for the Spring.

Also having a big day for the Dolphins was Russell, who marked his debut in a Dolphin uniform by going 3 for 3 at the plate with an RBI. He also threw out a Corcordia baserunner.

With the conclusion of the Fall non-traditional season, the Mount now looks ahead to the Spring of 2006 when they will seek to improve on an excellent debut season in 2005 when they finished 15-20. The Dolphins open play on Saturday, March 4 with a trip to Galludet University.
