STAC downs Mount Saint Vincent 3-0 in Women’s Soccer
Spartans score three times in eight-minute span to clinch second victory of 2005
9/29/2005 - (Riverdale, NY) – Sophomore Kimberly Griffith (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville HS) scored twice and freshman Stacy Samora (Sloatsburg, NY/Suffern HS) added a goal and an assist – all of which came during an eight-minute span of the first half – as St. Thomas Aquinas downed Mount Saint Vincent, 3-0 in a game played in Yonkers. With the win, STAC improved to 2-6 for the 2005 season, while Mount Saint Vincent fell to 3-4.

Samora opened the scoring in the 27th minute after a beautiful one-on-one move led to a breakaway and an easy goal. Two minutes later, Griffith tallied her first of the game after stealing a ball from a Mount Saint Vincent defender and firing a shot past Mount goalie Alexis Alessi (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside HS) for a 2-0 lead. Six minutes after that goal, Griffith scored her second of the game off of a crossing pass by Samora for the final goal of the game. STAC out-shot the Dolphins, 27-17 with most of their shots coming during a 10-minute stretch of the first half that produced all three Spartan goals.

For Mount Saint Vincent, Alessi was excellent once again, making 11 saves, but the Mount offense failed to capitalize on their scoring opportunities. Spartan freshman goalie Patricia Roth (Bayside, NY/St. Mary’s HS) made nine saves.

Mount Saint Vincent now hits the road for four consecutive away games beginning on Saturday with a trip to Medgar Evers. The HVWAC game will begin at 2:00.
