Men’s Volleyball falls to Ramapo in ECAC Championship Game
Gallagher, Tran combine for 50 kills in final collegiate match
4/15/2005 - (Ramapo, NJ) – Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Volleyball senior Phil Gallagher (Peru, ME/Mountain Valley HS) slammed home a match-high 26 kills and fellow senior Wilson Tran (Brooklyn, NY/Environmental Studies HS) added 24 kills of his, but the effort fell short as the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Volleyball team fell 3-1 to Ramapo College in the ECAC Metropolitan Championship Match at Ramapo College. With the loss, the Dolphins finish the 2005 season with a 16-10 overall record and a national ranking of #12.

Mount Saint Vincent dropped the first two games, 30-27 and 35-33, before winning the third game, 30-22. Ramapo won the fourth and final game 30-26. The Dolphins had leads late in each game, but could not seem to overcome a determined effort by Ramapo in front of their home fans.

Other than Gallagher and Tran’s heroics, Dolphin Setter Matthew Reinhardt (Staten Island, NY/McKee-SI Tech) contributed 49 assists.

The loss came only minutes after Mount Saint Vincent downed New Jersey City State in four games during the ECAC Semifinal round. Gallagher and Tran were once again the story as Tran slammed home an incredible 29 kills against only nine errors, and had nine total blocks, while Gallagher had 24 kills and 14 digs. Russell Butts (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach HS) added 10 kills in a winning effort as Mount Saint Vincent won the first two games, 30-19 and 30-19, before dropping the third game, 30-25. The Mount won the fourth game, 30-27 to advance to the championship round.
