“We are very excited to welcome Frank Fanning to Mount Saint Vincent, and I believe we picked a fantastic young coach to lead our Men’s and Women’s Tennis programs,” Ingram said. “During the interview process, Frank impressed us not only with his experience and tennis expertise, but with an incredible amount of energy and passion for the sport as well. When we made the decision a year ago to not sponsor tennis, we made it crystal clear that Mount Saint Vincent was fully committed to supporting and sponsoring an excellent tennis program, and would look to do so after a one-year hiatus. I believe we have lived up to that ideal with the hiring of our new Coach.”
While Mount Saint Vincent is Fanning’s first stint as a Head Coach at the College level, he is no stranger to collegiate tennis. From 1994-98, Fanning served as the Assistant Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at Marist College, a Division I member of the MAAC Conference. Since 1998, Fanning has enjoyed success on the youth tennis circuit, working as an ATP Touring Coach from 1998-2001. Since 2001, Fanning has worked as the Director of the Junior Tennis Academy at the Breakers Resort. Overall, Fanning brings more than 10 years of coaching experience to the Mount Saint Vincent courts.
Ingram was quick to point out that there has been significant interest by Mount Saint Vincent students with a tennis background in competing for the Mount teams during the upcoming year, so much so that both teams will compete in a full slate of matches in the Skyline Conference and Hudson Valley Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conferences. The programs, she added, seem to have a bright future with a new Coach in place.
“I’m excited for both Frank Fanning and the Student-Athletes who will compete in Tennis for Mount Saint Vincent. We look forward to having two programs that not only represent the vision we have set forth for Mount Athletics, but also succeed in two very competitive Conferences,” Ingram added.
