Graduate Assistant for Student Activities, Leadership & Commuter Life

The Office of Student Activities, Leadership, and Commuter Life manages the Alumnae Pavilion Student Center, plans and implements campus wide programs, advises student groups and student leaders, coordinates the functioning of all student clubs and organizations and provides programs and services for commuter students.

The Graduate Assistant for Student Activities is supervised by the Assistant Director of Student Activities.

This position is approximately 20-25 hours per week. Hours are to be agreed upon between the Graduate Assistant and the Assistant Director of Student Activities. Normal work hours are Monday through Friday between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM. Graduate Assistant hours worked are to be scheduled within this timeframe and are to be spaced out relatively evenly throughout the week.


Work closely with the Assistant Director of Student Activities to create and implement campus-wide programming, assist with advising the student programming board in planning, implementing, and assessing programs; advises one to two Classes of the Student Government Association and co-advises the Board of Programmers.

Assistance with departmental functions; orientation sessions, assessments, departmental programming and collaboration, selection and training of Commuter Assistants, and training and supervision of Student Office Assistants.

Attend weekly staff meetings, in-service training sessions, and all appropriate retreats, workshops, and seminars assigned by the Offices of Student Activities.

Participate as departmental and division team member.

Assume other responsibilities assigned by the Office Student Activities.

Six credit hours of graduate tuition remission per semester and one intersession course at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, furnished campus apartment, college meal plan, campus parking decal, access to campus recreation center, and use of campus shuttle (shuttle runs from campus to subway stop).
The preferred start date for this position is August 4, 2014.
Applicants must be accepted into a College of Mount Saint Vincent graduate program to be offered the tuition remission as indicated above. Students enrolled in graduate programs at other institutions are encouraged to apply, but are ineligible to receive payment for tuition credits at another institution.

Bachelor's degree required. Experience in a leadership position in student activities and experience in campus programming, with commuter students, and/or with orientation is highly desirable. A strong understanding of student activities required. Ability to work as a flexible and supportive team member in a diverse environment. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and Photoshop.
