Why I Give
Margaret Farrelly Broderick
“During my sophomore year at the Mount, my dad was out of work for nearly a year. Rather than having to drop out of college, Mount Saint Vincent made it financially possible for me to continue my studies and finish my degree on time with my class.

“I have never forgotten that generosity. If other students who had preceded me had not been so generous, the funds would not have been available to smooth my way. I feel a real obligation to continue the tradition of giving to make it possible for current and future students at Mount Saint Vincent to enjoy the same high- quality, value-driven education that I was so fortunate to receive.

“After working with Dr. Charles Flynn, the Mount’s president, the faculty and, most important, meeting with students, I truly believe that my financial contributions make an important and positive difference in the lives of the future graduates of the College.”
—Margaret Farrelly Broderick, Class of 1974

More About Meg…

Raised in the Bronx, Meg is the oldest daughter of six children. Since her parents were high school graduates, they raised their family with the expectation that each would find a way to get to college. Fortunately, her excellent preparation at Mount Saint Ursula High School qualified Meg for an academic scholarship to Mount Saint Vincent, which covered many of her expenses.

Meg graduated from the Mount in 1974, with a degree in mathematics. Since then she has earned two master’s degrees and is currently pursuing her doctorate at Pace University. After spending nearly 20 years at IBM, she now works with the North Bronx Healthcare Network as director of new technology.

Meg was a member of the executive board of the alumni association for a number of years, acting as president from 2001 to 2003. In that role, she often had the opportunity to speak to groups of alumni groups and frequently told the story of why she has always supported the fund to whatever extent she was able.
