Red Monkey Theater Group Announces 2013-2014 Season
8/16/2013 - Red Monkey Theater Group (RMTG), the College of Mount Saint Vincent's theater company-in-residence, is proud to present a “Season of Sisters,” an exploration of the bonds and barriers of sisterhood through three masterpieces of the stage. The performance series, beginning in mid-October 2013 and continuing through mid-April 2014, includes Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters in a new adaptation by RMTG Artistic Director Tal Aviezer; and productions of King Lear by William Shakespeare in January and Crimes of the Heart by Beth Henley in April.

Performances will be held in the newly-renovated Cahill Theater at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, 6301 Riverdale Avenue, Riverdale, NY 10471. This 75-seat venue, featuring an intimate thrust stage and raked seating, is ideally suited to the personal, thoughtful performance style and voyeuristic staging that have long been RMTG hallmarks.

RMTG’s "Season of Sisters" will commence with a production of Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters in a new adaptation by Director Tal Aviezer, running October 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, and November 1 and 2, Fridays through Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. “Chekhov's quiet, funny, shattering story of Irina, Masha, and Olga and the domestic upheaval surrounding their lives in the Russian countryside remains as relevant and revealing in the 21st century as it was at the dawn of the 20th,” Mr. Aviezer said.

The season continues with January 2014 performances of William Shakespeare’s King Lear. Part folk tale, part searing psychological study, Shakespeare's masterpiece of suffering, ambition, loss, and reconciliation is a formula for making peace with our own histories. The "Season of Sisters" concludes in April 2014 with Crimes of the Heart, as RMTG invites audiences to visit Old Grandaddy's home in Hazelhurst, Mississippi, home of the MaGrath Sisters and setting for Beth Henley's strange, moving, and brilliant southern gothic comedy.

Season tickets to all three “Season of Sisters” productions are currently on sale at www.redmonkeytheater.org for $48 for ALL THREE shows ($36 for students and seniors) - a savings of 25% over individual ticket prices. Season Subscribers can reserve their tickets before individual ticket sales open to the general public in September, thereby avoiding sell-outs.
