Why? “If you play volleyball, you become an expert
on the skeletal system, because you see all the things
that could go wrong with it,” explains Kulcsar, who
is studying at the New York College of Osteopathic
Medicine in Old Westbury, Long Island. “When they
are teaching you about things that can go wrong with the
knee, you’re thinking, ‘yeah I have seen that
in volleyball.’”
During Kulcsar’s tenure, the Mount’s
volleyball team made the playoffs and ranked in the top
15 in Division III. “We had players that were
ranked among the top 10 in the country,” he
says.
In a sense, Kulcsar’s approach to volleyball is
similar to his method as a scientist, healer, and
researcher.
“It’s the same way I am on the volleyball
court, trying to find new answers, trying to find ways to
keep the body going,” he says.
