M.B.A. for International Students Admission Requirements

Option 1
| Option 2 | Option 3

Option 1: Students without prior training in business – standard admissions
To be admitted to the College of Mount Saint Vincent's M.B.A. program, international applicants must meet CMSV’s standard criteria for acceptance, including a college/university GPA of 3.0 or better, a TOEFL score of 550 or better (or an EAL score of 6.5 or better), and a GMAT score of 530 or better.

International students applying to the M.B.A. program must submit their undergraduate foreign transcript to the World Education Services (WES) for review, translation, and evaluation. An official WES report must be sent directly to the College of Mount Saint Vincent by WES.

For additional information on the admissions procedure read the Mount's International Applicant Checklist

Option 2: Students with previous graduate coursework in business – the “1 + 1” program
International Students who have completed the equivalent of 1 year of graduate level studies in business administration may apply for admission into the CMSV M.B.A. program, with advanced standing. Under this option, international students may be awarded up to 24 credits of transfer credits, and may be able to earn the CMSV M.B.A. degree in 1 year of full-time study.

To qualify for transfer, previous coursework must satisfy the following criteria:
(a) The courses are considered graduate level courses at the foreign institution where they were taken and are normally taken as part of a Master’s Degree program;

(b) Courses submitted for transfer must have been completed with an acceptable record of academic performance. Generally, this means that the grade in each course submitted for transfer must be equivalent to the CMSV grade of “B”.

(c) For a course previously taken at a foreign institution to be transferred into the CMSV M.B.A. program, it must be the equivalent to one of the following survey courses, typically taken at CMSV by M.B.A. students in their first year of study:

  • Managerial Accounting
  • Financial Management
  • Managerial Economics
  • Data [Statistical] Analysis and Modeling for Managers
  • Marketing Concepts and Strategies
  • Managing Information Technologies & Innovation
  • Management and Organizational Theory
  • Professional and Business Communication

Students who are granted transfer credit for all 8 of the courses listed above, will be able to complete the requirements for the M.B.A. degree at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in one year (three terms over 12 months) of full-time study.

Option 3: Students with significant undergraduate coursework in business administration – the “4 + 1 Program for Students with Bachelor’s Degrees”
International students who have earned a Bachelor’s degree, and have completed significant undergraduate coursework in business, may apply to the CMSV MBA program, requesting waivers for courses in the MBA Core (Level 1). Substitutions are not required for waived coursework. Therefore, the number of credits required for completion of the MBA degree can be significantly reduced under this option.

Waivers of M.B.A. core (survey) courses are granted on a 6 credit (undergraduate) to 3 credit (graduate) equivalency basis.

To qualify for consideration toward a waiver, those undergraduate courses previously taken by International students must satisfy the following criteria:
(a) The courses are considered undergraduate level courses at the foreign institution where they were taken and are normally taken as part of a bachelor’s degree program;

(b) Courses must have been completed with an acceptable record of academic performance. Generally, this means that the grade in each course submitted must be equivalent to the CMSV grade of “B” or better (≥ 85th percentile).

(c) The content of the course must cumulatively be the equivalent to one of the following survey courses, typically taken at the Mount by M.B.A. students in their first year of study:

  • Managerial Accounting
  • Financial Management
  • Managerial Economics
  • Data [Statistical] Analysis and Modeling for Managers
  • Marketing Concepts and Strategies
  • Managing Information Technologies & Innovation
  • Management and Organizational Theory
  • Professional and Business Communication

The Office of the Dean of the School of Professional and Graduate Studies at the College of Mount Saint Vincent will determine which undergraduate courses from individual foreign universities qualify for waivers of core M.B.A. courses.

Students who are granted waivers for all 8 of the courses listed above will be able to complete the requirements for the M.B.A. degree at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in one year (three terms over 12 months) of full-time study.
