The College is pleased to honor C. Edward “Chuck” Chaplin, President and Chief Financial Officer of Municipal Bond Insurance Association (MBIA), Inc, and William J. Fishlinger, founder chairman and chief executive officer of Wright Risk Management WRM America Indemnity Corporation. Scholarship Tribute Dinner honorees are recognized for their business acumen, commitment to education, and support of the College’s mission.
MBIA is a holding company for MBIA Insurance Corporation, the largest bond insurer, National Public Finance Guarantee Corporation, the largest municipal bond-only insurer, and Cutwater Investor Services Company, an asset management company. Mr. Chaplin is responsible for the company’s accounting, tax, treasury and investor relations departments. He also oversees financial planning, reinsurance, banking and liquidation management, as well as information technologies and management services.
Mr. Chaplin initiated and led a capital program in the company and raised an industry-record of $2.65 billion of debt and equity. He was named co-president in 2008 and was given additional responsibility for the company’s administrative functions.
Mr. Fishlinger founded WRM, a New York-based insurance consulting firm, in 1978 and later formed the first public-sector cooperative purchasing programs in New York State. He founded the state’s first cooperatively financed Worker’s Compensation program for public schools and directed the formation of the first public sector owned property and casualty insurance company, New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal.
He is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Nassau County Bar Association, and the Defense Research Institute. Mr. Fishlinger and his wife, Joan, are both members of the Long Island Executive Board and have served in a number of leadership positions with the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation.
