Newburgh Free Academy, Newburgh, NY
Joseph Saldoriga wanted to attend a college where he could focus on majoring in Business Administration while fostering his love of dance through a minor in performing arts. Joseph’s dream is to one day open his own dance studio in Manhattan.
Joseph chose the Mount because he wanted to experience something completely different. “I was looking for a smaller campus environment and although I had never attended Catholic school, I wanted to feel more connected to my religion.”
Joseph is confident the academics and opportunities available to him are preparing him well for his future. “The faculty give a lot of personal time to the students and are very supportive of everything we do. My professors have made me realize what I am capable of and have helped me to establish who I am and what I want to do with my life.”
Today, Joseph is a junior and very involved in campus life as Class Treasurer, Resident Advisor, Orientation Leader, Admission Ambassador and – most notably – president and founder of the Mount’s dance club Words/Dolphin Dolls. “We now have 30 dancers in the club and we do two shows: one in the fall, one in the spring.
Managing all aspects of the dance club has shown me what it will take to run my own dance studio one day, so it has been an incredible experience for me.” Joseph started the dance club to provide students with the opportunity to improve their dance skills, interact with other students who also love to dance, and learn how to manage a team of dancers and choreograph performances. “I will forever be grateful to the Mount for allowing me the opportunity to start my own dance club,” he says. “Everyone involved loves being part of it and I love doing it.”
