The College of Mount Saint Vincent does not have a formal pre-law major. The list of courses below is recommended for all students matriculated in a traditional major who plan to study law after graduation. The courses are part of the required Core at the College of Mount Saint Vincent or are electives offered at the College. Most of these courses can be accommodated in any one of the traditional liberal arts majors.
Courses by Department
*Included in Core
Note: Students who wish to gain entrance to Law School should have good academic grades, a broad background of extracurricular activities and relatively high LSAT scores.
Students who plan to apply to law school are advised to take courses that develop their oral and written expression, ability to think analytically and critically, and comprehension of human institutions and values. While no specific major is prescribed, students are encouraged to develop a well-balanced liberal arts foundation.
Please meet with the Pre-law advisor to plan an appropriate curriculum and learn about requirements for admission to law schools, as well as availability of scholarships and career opportunities within the legal profession.
