Academic Support

Academic Workshops
The TRIO SSS Program sponsors a variety of academic, cultural, professional, and personal benefit workshops every semester. The workshops focus on academic success, and include topics such as time management, study skills, financial-aid guidance, scholarship search, college writing, and exam preparation. Students’ input is considered for planning the workshop topics.

Career Development Workshops
TRIO sponsors a series of career development workshops every year, covering topics, such as graduate school and employment search. The workshop topics include resume writing, interviewing, graduate school applications, and financial literacy. Each workshop is carefully selected to meet the needs of the students.

Counseling and Advisement
The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program provides both academic and personal counseling. This support network is available until graduation and the frequency of counseling sessions varies depending on the student’s class standing. Students can schedule additional appointments with counselors when they need advice.

Cultural Enrichment
The TRIO SSS Program organizes at least one Broadway or off-Broadway play, or cultural activity per year. TRIO students have attended performances of In The Heights, Aida, Fuerzabruta, Miss Saigon, Jekyll and Hyde, Chicago, Rent, Burn The Floor, and Memphis, among others.

TRIO Computer Lab
The TRIO Lab provides students with access to computers and software programs used at the College, which are connected to the Internet and printers. Students can receive individualized assistance for the various computer software programs.

TRIO Library
TRIO SSS offers textbooks used in several majors and in most core courses, to assist students with tutoring. Tutoring resources include writing manuals, reference books, and dictionaries.

Tutoring
TRIO SSS offers tutoring and academic support in most core classes and discipline courses. Tutoring is conducted on a need basis, and students are encouraged to request tutors in subject areas that they find challenging. Students should specify when and how much time they would like to meet. Tutors are provided to assist with any academic need that may arise.
