Fieldwork Training
The Counseling Center at the College of Mount Saint Vincent is committed to providing students with the best clinical support services possible. We offer training experience to graduate social work interns who can work closely with our students. We currently provide internship programs to graduate students at Columbia University, New York University, Fordham University, and Hunter College.

Field Training Internship Program
A field placement at the College of Mount Saint Vincent is highly clinical. We require a second-year student who has a wealth of life experience, maturity and familiarity with comprehensive clinical work. It provides autonomy and is ideal for those interested in pursuing a private practice. Social work interins have the opportunity to:
  • Conduct case management, intakes, and screenings
  • Provide short and long-term psychotherapy to at-will and mandated clients
  • Complete referrals; facilitate groups; and conduct outreach
Field Training Application Process and Timeline
Second-year interns are invited to apply and complete a rigorous two-three part interview process to verify they are ready for college mental health psychotherapy. Accepted interns are requested to attend one day of Freshman Orientation during the summer. Field Work Placement parallels the semester dates at CMSV. It begins in the middle of August and ends in late May. There is a 5-week winter recess.
