CMSV Celebrates Centennial Founders Day April 19, 2011
4/14/2011 - Riverdale, N.Y. -- The College of Mount Saint Vincent celebrates the 100th anniversary of the charter creating the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday, April 19, 2011. This special Centennial Founders Day Celebration will include a full roster of activities.

Originally founded as the Academy of Mount Saint Vincent in 1847 by the Sisters of Charity of New York, the Trustees of the University of the State of New York amended the charter in 1911, creating the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Today the College is synonymous with exceptional, co-educational, Catholic and ecumenical liberal arts education with nationally-recognized programs taught by distinguished faculty in small, supportive classes. The College offers a quality education to talented students without regard to financial background, by offering generous scholarships and institutional grants.

The Centennial Founders Day Celebration will include a Liturgy in the Chapel of the Administration Building at 12:30 p.m.; a Campus Tour at 2:30 p.m., which departs from the second floor porch of the Administration Building; a Founders Day Forum on “Teach Me Goodness,” delivered by Dr. Anne Denise Brennan, S.C., Professor Emerita of English, at 4:00 p.m. in Pastorini Lounge in Administration Building, and a Centennial Concert delivered by the CMSV Choir at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel in the Administration Building. In honor of the Centennial Founders Day Celebration, the CMSV Choir present works by Mozart, Brahms and Caccinini. The choir will also perform a Gregorian chant, psalm settings, spirituals and songs by contemporary American composers.

To commemorate the contributions of the College’s founders, several locations on campus will be renamed as part of the day’s festivities. The Liturgy, campus tour and Centennial Concert are free and open to the public.
