1/15/2010 -
Kevin's comparison between Mexico and India
was to determine if the global financial crisis
spells automatic hardship for remittance dependent
nations or presents the chance to show resilience
and growth. He concluded that despite an
economic slowdown, global remittance payments
continue to flow.
1/11/2010 - In a recently
released report funded by the National Science
Foundation, Benchmarking the Success of Latino and Latina
Students in STEM to Achieve National Graduation Goals by
the Center for Urban Education, the College of Mount
Saint Vincent received the report’s highest equity
rating in terms of science, technology, engineering and
math (STEM) degrees awarded to Latino students compared
to the proportion of Latino students enrolled in STEM
fields.

The College of Mount Saint Vincent will be holding a
Transfer Student Information Session to address the
particular needs of transfer students.
12/4/2009 - Forgoing the usual
Secret Santa gifts and office party trinkets, some Mount
employees are pooling their gift giving funds to provide
Bronx families with toys for their children and gift
cards from supermarkets in order to make their Christmas
holiday brighter.

11/12/2009 - The student
chapter of the American Chemical Society at the
College of Mount Saint Vincent will receive a
Commendable Award for its activities during the
2008-2009 academic year.
11/10/2009 - The
award is a collaborative effort between institutions of
higher learning and the newspaper to honor academic
excellence as well as business leadership. Colleges
and universities nominate students who they believe will
be worthy recipients.
11/6/2009 - On November 17, the
Peter Jay Sharp Athletic and Recreation Center will
officially become the newest addition to the College of
Mount Saint Vincent. On that day, the College will
host a grand opening ceremony to usher in the new
facility.
10/29/2009 - The documentary will
be shown on November 12 at 4.30 p.m. in the
President’s Reception Room in the Administration
Building.
10/16/2009 - The Ad Laudem
Dei awards will be bestowed at a reception for
recipients and the President’s Associates at
6:00 p.m. in the President’s Reception Room on
October 27.
10/7/2009 - Yafreisy Carrero has
been awarded an exclusive slot in the General Electric
Mentoring Program, sponsored by the Hispanic Scholarship
Fund. Ms. Carrero is a senior at the College with a major
in mathematics and a minor in art.
10/6/2009 - On Wednesday,
October 7, the College of Mount Saint Vincent, along
with the Sisters of Charity, will present a lecture,
The Sisters
of Charity in Health
Care.
9/24/2009 - The first film,
Barbie Nation, will be shown at 4:30 p.m. in the
President’s Reception Room in the Administration
Building.
9/14/2009 -
Shane Strassberg ’03 will showcase his
photography in an exhibit entitled, “From the
Other Side” on Friday, September 18, from 6:30
pm-8:30 pm at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in
the Elizabeth Seton Library.
7/2/2009 - The College of Mount
Saint Vincent has been awarded a $77,087 grant by the
Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA), a
division of the office of Health and Human
Services. The grant will provide
scholarships for disadvantaged nursing students.
6/15/2009 -
This program supports US embassies and consulates
overseas by providing policy
specialists-in-residence. Dr. Smirnova will be in
the U.S. Consulate in Vladivostok, Russia.
5/28/2009 - His
work is currently on exhibit at the College in
the Elizabeth Seton Library. The exhibit will
take place at the College's Elizabeth Seton
Library, 2nd floor, on Friday, June 5 from 8:30
a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday, June 6
from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Rose McTague, Head of School and Chief Executive
Officer at Mother Cabrini High School is one of
twenty-one graduates of independent colleges and
universities throughout New York honored as 2009
Alumni Hall of Distinction Award Winners. The
College will honor her achievement at a Champagne
reception on Saturday, June 6 at 6:30 p.m. during
the College’s annual reunion weekend.
5/20/2009 - College of Mount
Saint Vincent student selected to participate
in the fourth annual Path to Peace Foundation
seminar sponsored by the Permanent Observer Mission
of the Holy See to the United Nations.
5/12/2009 - Faculty members and
students at the College of Mount Saint Vincent were
inducted into the Scientific Research Society Sigma Xi on
May 6, 2009, after a Sigma Xi Chapter was officially
started on campus. Sigma Xi is an international
multidisciplinary research society whose programs and
activities promote scientific enterprise, high ethical
standards, and honor scientific achievement.
5/6/2009 - The College of Mount
Saint Vincent will host an MBA Information session on
Saturday May 9, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the
Elizabeth Seton Library on the College campus.
4/17/2009 - On
Monday, May 4, 2009, the College of Mount Saint Vincent
will host its annual Scholarship Tribute Dinner at
Cipriani on 42nd Street in New York City. The Dinner is
an important event for the College and for the community
as monies raised through the Dinner provide scholarship
funds for strong students with great need, a wonderful
investment in the future.
4/17/2009 - The student repertory
company at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, known as
the CMSV Players, will debut their rendition of the
Broadway musical Into the Woods on April 24 at
8:00 pm in Hayes Auditorium. Inspired by Bruno
Bettleheim’s 1976 book, “The Uses of
Enchantment,” the musical intertwines the plots of
several Brothers Grimm fairy tales and follows
them to explore the consequences of the
characters' wishes and quests.
4/8/2009 - The College of Mount
Saint Vincent will hold Commencement on May 16 for the
graduating class of 2009. John Patrick Shanley, author of
the Pulitzer Prize winning play Doubt, will deliver the
Commencement Address. The ceremony will be held on the
College campus in front of the Administration building
beginning at 10:30 a.m. In addition, the College will
confer upon Mr. Shanley the honorary Doctorate of Humane
Letters.
5/15/2009 - Riverdale, NY
– The College of Mount Saint Vincent is
pleased to announce the launch of a new
Master’s of Business Administration (MBA)
program starting September 2009. The MBA is
open to all students including those interested in
pursuing a 5 year concentration, those currently
enrolled at other institutions, recent graduates,
working professionals, community residents looking
to acquire additional business skills, and
institutions or organizations seeking to strengthen
their leadership.
2/23/2009 - The
Sisters of Charity, founders of the College of Mount
Saint Vincent, have been invited in the celebration
of this year’s St. Patrick’s Day
Parade. The Sisters and the College are
invited not only to march, but have the honor of
leading off the parade in recognition of the Sisters
of Charity Bicentennial which celebrates 200 years
of their dedication to serving the people of New
York.
2/11/2009 - Riverdale, NY –
Members of the Mount MDs Pre-Medical Club at the College
of Mount Saint Vincent will volunteer with Orphanage
Outreach, a non-profit organization that helps children
living in poverty in Monti Cristi, Dominican Republic.
They will help raise funds to build a much-needed
addition to the orphanage. Sixteen Mount students will
spend their spring break from March 16 to March 20, 2009,
live with the children, and provide them with basic
necessities. The club is seeking donations from students,
faculty, staff, administration and the public to meet
their fundraising goal of $16,000.
1/29/2009 - Dr.
Eugene Cittadino, NYU professor of historical
biology and Darwinian thought, will be the guest
speaker for Charles Darwin: The Life and Times of a
Revolutionary Thinker on February 12, Darwin’s
birthday. The lecture is the first in a series
of events which includes panel presentations, guest
speakers, and a movie night celebrating the works of
Darwin. Several College departments are
collaborating in organizing the on-campus events to
celebrate the bicentennial of Charles Darwin’s
birth and his theory of evolution.
1/12/2009 - The Campus
Ministry office and Residence Life at the College of
Mount Saint Vincent are sponsoring a book drive to
help children caught in the war in Northern Uganda.
They are supporting “Invisible
Children,” a non-profit organization that
encourages activism and creates awareness for the
events Uganda. Donated books can be dropped off in
room 113 in the Administration Building.
1/6/2009 -
Richard Barnet, an Associate Professor in the
Humanities Department at the College of Mount Saint
Vincent, will have his sculpture Ship with Shields
displayed at The Art Students League of New York in
midtown Manhattan. The sculpture will be shown from
January 11 to February 16, 2009.
12/19/2008 - On Christmas day,
the College of Mount Saint Vincent will host the
non-profit organization, God’s Love We
Deliver. A group of volunteers will work from
campus to prepare approximately 2,100 meals from 9:00
a.m. to 10:00 p.m. These meals will then be personally
delivered to clients, many who are living with HIV/AIDS,
cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and other chronic
illnesses. These clients live in all five New York City
boroughs as well as New Jersey and Hudson County.
12/17/2008 - "The
Connecticut Family Theatre and the Edgerton Center"
will be on campus on December 18 and will perform their
show The Lost Elves. The show is view of how
different cultures celebrate the holidays around the
world.
11/4/2008 - John Kruth,
Professor of music at the College of Mount Saint
Vincent, recently published To Live’s to Fly:
The Ballad of the Late, Great Townes Van
Zandt. The book was selected as the
“Best Musical Biography of the Year” by
the American Society of Composers, Authors &
Publishers Awards (ASCAP). He will be honored on
Tuesday, December 9, at Lincoln Center in New York
City where he will receive the Deems Taylor Award
which recognizes books, articles, liner notes,
broadcasts and websites on the subject of music
selected for their excellence.
11/4/2008 - Professor Cynthia
Meyers, Communications Professor at the College of Mount
Saint Vincent, has been selected to be one of 20 faculty
members to take part in a week long seminar to work
directly with television professionals in the aim of
improving curriculum and faculty expertise. The seminar
will take place on from November 11-15, 2008 at the
Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles.
9/18/2008 - On
Friday, September 19, members of the Class of 2012 will
meet with political leaders from New York State through
their 101 class, a semester long course specifically
designed to introduce freshman to college life. Special
guest speakers will include Senator Jeff Klein,
Assemblyman Mike Spano and Senator Vincent Leibell.
They will discuss the importance of voting in the
upcoming presidential election and the importance for
students to exercise their right to vote.
9/5/2008 - The History Department
at the College of Mount Saint Vincent will host a lecture
with author Tom Phelan to discuss his book, The Canal
Bridge. The work tells the story of two Irish
stretcher-bearers in the British Army trying to stay
alive as they navigate the perils of the trench warfare
in World War I.
7/30/2008 -
Karen Boykin-Towns, a 1987 graduate from the College
of Mount Saint Vincent will begin her new role at
Pfizer as Chief Diversity Officer on August 1, when
she will become a member of Pfizer’s Human
Resources Leadership Team. Her current role as
Senior Director/Team Leader in U.S. Public Affairs
and Policy has led to the company’s highly
successful government relations and public affairs
activities in New York, New Jersey, and
Delaware.

6/20/2008 - The hit crime
drama television show, Law & Order: Criminal
Intent is currently filming portions of an upcoming
episode at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The
3-day shoot will use various locations throughout
campus as backdrops for the show. Vincent
D’Onofrio (The Cell, Men in Black), Kathryn
Erbe (Stir of Echoes), guest star Joanna Adler, and
all principle actors will be on campus for filming.
5/29/2008 - Kaitlin Christi
Burud, business major and graduating senior at the
College of Mount Saint Vincent has been honored with the
first of its kind, the Marketsmith, Inc. Award for
Entrepreneurship. The award is given to the student who
produces what is judged to be the best original business
plan from among those submitted that year. Ms. Burud was
singled out for her in-depth proposal of a sports-themed
day care center, All Star Day Care.

College of Mount Saint Vincent students Elizabeth
Athenas and Maricon Fernandez were awarded
scholarships to be among 50 college students who
will participate in the third annual Path to Peace
Foundation seminar on Catholic social thought for
Catholic college students.

College of Mount Saint Vincent student, Sasha
Paulino has been awarded with the Jeannette K.
Watson Fellowship. The Fellowship, established
by the Thomas J. Watson Foundation in 1999, is a
three-year program that offers students paid summer
internships, mentoring, and enhanced educational
opportunities to New York City undergraduates who
demonstrate exceptional promise, outstanding
leadership and commitment to the common good.
10/26/2007 - The College of
Mount Saint Vincent’s undergraduate and
graduate Nursing programs have been awarded four
grants totaling more than $2 million from the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services’
Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
The grants, which represent a renewal and doubling
of HRSA grants of $1 million awarded to the College
in 2004, support programs that will expand the
supply of qualified nurses in the New York
metropolitan area and promote diversity within the
nursing profession.
9/17/2007 - Beginning on
August 26, approximately 200 students moved in to
the newly opened Mastronardi Hall. Four days prior,
honorees and guests gathered in Spellman Hall to
celebrate the completion of the new residence hall.
