Job Description

 

Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and College Relations, the Associate Director of College Relations will be responsible for developing and executing a public relations and marketing strategy that raises institutional visibility, establishing relationships with local and regional media and serving as the College’s primary public relations writer.

 

Qualifications:

·        Must possess excellent writing and editing skills, serve as the College’s primary public relations writer, and have the ability to produce effective publications and marketing pieces that promote the College’s strengths and unique features.

·        Hire and supervise contractors to assist in preparation of publications and marketing pieces.

·        Develop and maintain a media relations strategy for the College locally and regionally, and prepare and distribute news releases.  Write, distribute and follow-up press releases to key outlets to obtain media coverage for various College events and achievements.

·        As directed by the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, serve as the College’s spokesperson in response to media inquiries.

·        Work with various College departments, including the Admissions and School of Professional and Continuing Studies, to create and maintain an effective marketing campaign for the College.  Collaborate with these offices in developing advertising copy and design for online, direct mail, newspaper, magazine and radio markets; track materials deadlines.

·        Assist with all phases of planning and preparation for various College events; attend events and supervise all aspects of each event.  Assist in developing invitations and promotional materials for various internal and public events; coordinate with graphic designers / printers, execute distribution of materials and monitor external mailings.  Hire and supervise photographers, florist, other contractors as necessary; coordinate with College’s catering service for food and beverage needs for each event.  Collaborate with College administrators, faculty, staff, students and external groups involved in various aspects of events.

·        Must be deadline and results oriented; creative; team oriented; adaptable and able to keep information confidential as required.

·        General administrative duties include responding to department telephone and email inquiries; fax, mail and bill processing; tracking department expenditures to budget, and maintaining files and photographs.

 

Experience Required:

·        Bachelor’s degree.

 

 

Experience Preferred:

·        Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications or related discipline; Master’s degree desirable.

·        Experience in writing marketing-communications.

·        Work experience in higher education.
