Alessi makes six saves during final non-conference game between Dolphins and Panthers; MSV travels to St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday
10/24/2006 - Two weeks ago, the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team proved that when Purchase College enters the Skyline Conference in 2007, they already have a major rival only minutes to the South. On Tuesday, the Mount's Women's Soccer team proved the same thing. Both teams battled, clawed, and fought their way through 90 minutes of soccer intensity that had all of the feelings of an important late-season conference game, and while Purchase took the game, 1-0, the reality was clear that when this game counts for Conference standings a year from now, it is going to be a rivalry. Lupero, Fernandes, Motz net first goals of 2006 as Dolphins break three-game winless streak
10/19/2006 - Senior Day - the final home game of the regular season in which all graduating seniors are honored for their accomplishments on and off the field during the previous four years - is generally regarded as a happy occasion in which all of those playing at home for the final time enjoy one final moment in the spotlight before their careers come to a close. When the College of Saint Elizabeth scored only 1:25 into Thursday's game and put a #2 seed in the upcoming Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) playoffs in serious doubt for Mount Saint Vincent, the celebrating had to be put on hold ... at least for a little while. Ultimately, on a day when three of the most prominent Dolphins to ever wear the blue and gold were honored, it was a group of virtual role players who stole the show, as three Dolphins found the back of the net for the first time this season, leading the Mount to a 4-2 come from behind win during a game played at Mount Saint Vincent. St. Joseph’s scores three times in 34 minutes and cruises to create three-team log-jam for third place in Skyline Conference
10/14/2006 - As far as the Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Soccer team is concerned, the 2006 playoffs have begun. Three days after a 2-2 tie against Centenary College that marked one of the finest performances in team history, the Mount took to the field Saturday afternoon for a clash with St. Joseph’s College in a game that brought with it huge Skyline Conference post-season implications. Unfortunately for Mount Saint Vincent, a game that could have put the Dolphins in the driver’s seat for their first-ever Skyline Conference playoff appearance, ultimately proved to yield more questions than answers as the Golden Eagles put forth a dominant performance for a 3-0 win at Mount Saint Vincent. With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 5-3-1 overall and 2-3-1 in Skyline Conference play. From this point on, every game is now a must-win. More...
Curran’s 80th minute goal forces overtime; Alessi makes 13 saves during another spectacular effort; Dolphins now tied for fourth place in Skyline Conference
10/11/2006 - If there is one thing Head Coach Tony Elmore has instilled on the Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Soccer team during his three-year tenure at the Dolphin helm, it’s that in the face of any kind of adversity, hard work and determination is the great equalizer. On Wednesday, the Dolphins learned the lesson first hand perhaps more than they ever have before. A long bus ride did not deter the Mount. A steady rain-storm that made the field a virtual quagmire only seemed to push the Dolphins harder. And, a 27-4 shooting advantage by Centenary College meant absolutely nothing in the big picture as ultimately, it was the Dolphins’ tenacity and determination that proved to be the order of the day during a 2-2 tie with the Cyclones that put Mount Saint Vincent front and center in the Skyline Conference playoff picture. 9/27/2006 - There is something about this team that suggests remarkable things are bound to happen whenever they take the field. Despite a youthful roster that includes only three seniors, there is a certain swagger to this group, a quiet confidence and determination exuding that they know how to win no matter what obstacles are in their way. The Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Soccer team is simply special, and while Wednesday’s performance against Medgar Evers was not their best, it proved just how special they are … and how dangerous they could be. Dolphins score three goals during final 16 minutes to secure second straight Conference win
Alexis Alessi9/20/2006 - There was one major difference between the Mount Saint Vincent and Mount Saint Mary Women’s Soccer team on Wednesday, a difference that not only decided the winner of a hotly contested Skyline Conference game, but also the potential playoff hopes of both participants. The difference Wednesday night was that Mount Saint Vincent had Alexis Alessi (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside HS) in goal, and Mount Saint Mary did not. On a night when the home team outshot, outpossessed, and in several ways outplayed the Dolphins, it was Alessi who came through time after time, turning in perhaps the finest performance of her career as the Mount improved to 2-0 this season with a 3-0 win over Mount Saint Mary during a game played at Mount Saint Mary.
