Mike Trainor fanned six in |
Trainor was the story in game one for the Dolphins as he allowed single runs in third and fourth innings. He allowed only two extra base hits in the outing and allowed only three hits after the fourth inning. He struck out six Privateers in the game against just one walk and lowered his earned run average on the season by over a run and a half.
Five Dolphins finished the game one victory with at least two hits, with T.J. Laible (Rockaway, N.Y.) having a productive day out of the number nine hole. He went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple and also scored two runs. Christian Lavery (Westbury, N.Y.), Joe Blackford (Sterwartsville, N.J.), Mike Ruckdaschel (East Meadow, N.Y.) and Mike Pope (Massapequa, N.Y.) all drove in two runs for the Dolphins.
In game two Maritime jumped on Mount Saint Vincent starter Matt Calandrillo (Cold Spring, N.Y.) for six runs in its first at bat. The Privateers had only two hits in the inning, but took advantage of four walks and an error. Christopher Myers delivered two runs in the frame with a single.
The Dolphins would not be able to get on the board until the fifth inning when they plated a pair of runs. John McManus (Queens, N.Y.) picked up a run scoring single in the frame and James Labartinio (Holbrook, N.Y.) crossed on an error. The Mount would inch closer in the sixth with a run on a Laible sacrifice fly, but an insurance run from Maritime in the top of the seventh secured the win.
Trevor Canella worked an effective game two for Maritime, going 6.0 innings and allowing just one earned run on six hits. He fanned three Dolphins and walked four. Ryan Simpson came on in the seventh and struck out two.
Labartino was the only Dolphins with multiple hits in game two, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. McManus and Laible drove in the only runs of the game for the Mount, while Lavery worked a pair of walks.
The split in game two moves Mount Saint Vincent to 11-14 overall and to an even 4-4 in league play. The game two loss was the first in program history to Maritime as the Dolphins stand at 10-1 all-time against the Privateers. The Mount will be back in action again on Sunday when they travel to Yeshiva. First pitch with the Maccabees is set for 12:00 p.m.
