Advocate for Our Students Today - Send a Letter to Senator Gillibrand
Dear Alumnae/i and Friends:

The Mount recently submitted a Congressional appropriations request of $2.5 million to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY). If granted, these legislatively directed funds would allow us to renovate our out-of-date chemistry labs in Science Hall. As President Flynn recently said: “Without science, a liberal arts education is deficient. That’s why chemistry and biology are a requirement for all Mount students regardless of major.”

Mount Saint Vincent has a long and proud history of academic excellence. The Mount’s science programs are outstanding. Just last December, for example, a National Science Foundation-funded study (Dowd et al. 2009) named the College number one in the nation when it comes to graduating Hispanic science majors. We now need to provide our students with the state-of-the-art laboratory facilities that will ensure continuing excellence.

As an alumna/us or friend of the Mount you are a vital advocate for our students. You can testify to the transformative power of a Mount education. You therefore can make a big difference in the final outcome of our request by emailing Senator Gillibrand and informing her of your strong support for our appropriations request.

To help you with this task, we have provided a sample letter to the right of this page. All you need to do is go to the Senator’s contact page by clicking on this link http://gillibrand.senate.gov/contact/ , identify yourself by filling out the short form there, paste the prepared text into the your comments box, and clicking the send button.

Thank you for your help in this important cause, and please remember: every email counts. Please do not hesitate to share this email with classmates and other friends of the College, and encourage them to lend their support as well.

Sincerely,

Madeleine Melkonian
Vice President, Institutional Advancement & College Relations
