3/18/2010 -

Ft. Pierce, Fla. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team snapped a five game losing streak and ended its trip to Florida with a big 12-2 win over Bethany on Thursday morning. Four Dolphins

Sophomore Anthony Masullo
was one of four Dolphins with
at least two hits against Bethany

recorded at least two hits in the contest, with sophomore Mike Lucre (Queens, N.Y.) collecting three to go along with four RBI.

The Dolphins opened the game up early on Thursday, plating five runs in each of the first two innings. Kevin Coogan (Bronx, N.Y.) got the Mount on the board with a run scoring single, before Lucre drove in a pair with a double in the first frame. T.J. Laible (Rockaway, N.Y.) drove in two more runs for the Dolphins with a single to left center with two away in the inning.

Mount Saint Vincent picked right up where they left off in the first inning in their second at bat, scoring five more runs on three hits. Lucre again had the big blow in the inning with his second two run double of the contest to help the Mount open up a 10-1 lead after two innings.

The ten runs would be all the Mount Saint Vincent pitching staff would need in the game, as four pitchers combined to allow just two runs and nine hits. Ryan Schlicter (Southold, N.Y.) earned his first career win for the Dolphins after working 5.0 effective innings. Schlicter allowed two earned runs on six hits on the day and struck out four. Matt Calandrillo (Haldane, N.Y.), Anthony Mongelli (Flushing, N.Y.) and Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, N.J.) combined to work four shutout innings out of the bullpen.

Lucre finished the afternoon 3-5 with a pair of runs scored and four RBI. John McManus (Queens, N.Y.), Coogan, and Anthony Masullo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) all finished with two base hits for the Mount and Liable drove in two runs.

Mark Cummins led three Bethany players with a least two hits after going 3-4 with a run scored. Tyler Dillinger and Ryan Owens each picked up two safeties for the Bison. Ryan Styche took the loss for Bethany after allowing 10 runs, only six earned, in 1.2 innings of work.

The win on Thursday improves the Mount to 4-8 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again in the Northeast on Saturday when they host the College of Staten Island at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, N.Y. First pitch for the non-conference set will be 3:00 p.m.
