The Sky’s The Limit for Girls in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math
The 2010 “Explore Your Opportunities—The Sky’s The Limit” Conference Provides Female Students With Hands-on Exploration of STEM Careers
3/17/2010 - The 2010 “Explore Your Opportunities—The Sky’s The Limit” Conference will be held at the College of Mount Saint Vincent on March 20th. The event will provide female students with a hands-on exploration of careers in science, technology, engineering and math. The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will host this important event. Explore Your Opportunities helps 7th grade girls further explore the fields of math and science while learning about career opportunities for women in these fields. AAUW New York City, Westchester and Manhattan Branches along with the Mount will sponsor the conference.

The event will offer 15 unique hands-on workshops for learning, raging from Brain Games, understanding climate change, discovering DNA, applying math to the film industry, and others. The event also provides an avenue for the girls to form personal contacts with women working in traditionally male occupations and the opportunity to network with other young people interested in math and science.

“As the premier organization advancing educational and professional opportunities for women, AAUW knows that education is the key to success” said Linda D. Hallman, AAUW Executive Director. “That’s why we’re working to make the dream of higher education a reality for women and to turn the tide for women in the sciences.”

AAUW has a long and distinguished history of advancing educational and professional opportunities for women in the United States and around the globe. AAUW advocates for equality in pay, education, and employment opportunities for women in the workforce. This conference, and others like it, emphasizes AAUW’s beliefs and foundations as it encourages young women to study math and science as a means to keep a wide range of career choices open to them.

“We are delighted that the AAUW has selected the College of Mount Saint Vincent for the Explore Your Opportunities Conference,” said Madeleine Melkonian, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and College Relations. “We very much look forward to working with the AAUW team to ensure a terrific event for the students.”
