Dolphins’ Winning Streak Snapped In Skyline Conference Semifinals

the Skyline semifinals.

game winning streak snapped on Saturday with a 73-46 loss to Mount Saint Mary in the Skyline Conference Tournament Semifinals. Senior Jill Brady (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with a game-high 14 points in the contest.

 

Brady gave Mount Saint Vincent its only lead of the afternoon with a triple at the 18:42 mark of the first half before the Blue Knights regained the lead for good on the following possession with a jumper from Shannon Sangster.

 

The Dolphins would shoot just 25-percent in the opening half and stayed within striking range with five three pointers in the period. The Dolphins trailed by just nine at the break after shooting 6-for-24 from the floor in the half, but 5-for-16 from long distance. Mount Saint Mary shot 43.3-percent in the period and out rebounded the Dolphins 26-8.

 

The Blue Knights would push its lead to 11 points on the first possession of the second half and opened the half on a 10-2 spurt to push the advantage to 16 points in the first five minutes of the half.

 

Mount Saint Mary would go on to outscore the Dolphins 41-23 in the second half after shooting just over 57-percent from the floor. After the jumping out by 11 in the opening seconds of the second half the Blue Knights would not let Mount Saint Vincent closer then 13 points the remainder of the contest.

 

Overall for the afternoon the Blue Knights shot an even 50-percent from the field and knocked down seven triples. Catie Biordi, Sangster and Natalie Garbie each scored 12 points for the Knights, while Chrissy Zrowka handed out eight assists against just two turnovers.

 

Mount Saint Mary held a commanding 48-18 advantage on the glass and also out scored the Dolphins 24-6 in the paint and 17-4 in second chance points.

 

Brady finished with four three-pointers in the game as the Mount shot 25-percent from the floor and went 9-for-35 from behind the arc. Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) added with points and six rebounds and fellow senior Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished with five point and six assists.

 

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 18-9 overall on the season. The Dolphins will await word on a bid to the ECAC Metro Division Tournament on Monday. If selected it would mark the third straight year the Dolphins would compete in the postseason.
