Karissa Koerner helped
lead the Dolphins past the
Golden Eagles on Saturday.

Riverdale, N.Y. – Senior Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, N.Y.) drained five three-pointers on her way to a game-high 22 points in the College of Mount Saint Vincent’s 87-71 Skyline Conference win over St. Joseph’s-L.I. on Saturday afternoon. Koerner led four Mount Saint Vincent players in double-figures, with Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) adding 21 in the win.

After falling behind 29-18 in the first half after a Carissa Pirotta three pointer, Mount Saint Vincent stormed back with a 15-0 run over a three minute stretch to secure the lead for good in the contest. The run started with a lay in from Heesemann and it was capped off by a three point play from freshman Andree DeLeon (Flushing, N.Y.) with just over two minutes to play in the half.

Overall the Dolphins outscored St. Joseph’s 21-5 over the final 5:57 of the half to take a 39-34 lead into the half. The Mount finished the half 13-for-31 from the floor, knocking in three triples. Heesemann led all scorers at the break with 13 of her 21.

Mount Saint Vincent would let its lead slip to just a single point after a Corissa Stack layup 2:07 into the second half, but that would be the Golden Eagles smallest deficit the remainder of the contest.

Following the Stack bucket the Mount held St. Joseph’s without a point for over three minutes as it slowly built its lead to seven at 47-40 after a Heesemann bucket over that span.

The Dolphins would push the lead to 10 with 11:37 left in regulation and to a game-high 16 points after a pair of Jill Brady (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) free-throws in the final 20 seconds. Mount Saint Vincent outscored the Golden Eagles by 11 in the second half and from the point of their 11 point deficit in the first half by 27.

Koerner finished the afternoon 7-for-11 overall from the floor and 5-for-9 from long distance. She was also one of four Dolphins to secure at least five rebounds. Heesemann finished up 8-for-14 from the floor and grabbed eight boards for the Dolphins.

DeLeon reached a new career-high on Saturday with 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting. She tallied eight of her 13 after halftime and also grabbed six rebounds. Rounding out the four in double-figures was Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, N.Y.) The 5-4 point guard had a strong all-around game with 12 points, six rebounds, eight assists and three steals. She finished the game 4-for-9 from the floor and 4-for-6 from the free-throw line.

Mount Saint Vincent held the Golden Eagles to just 34.9-percent shooting in the tilt and forced 20 turnovers which resulted in 25 points. The Dolphins also outscored St. Joseph’s 32-20 in the paint and 10-4 in fast break points.

The win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 12-8 overall on the season and to 9-5 against Skyline Conference foes. The Dolphins will be back on the floor again on Tuesday when they travel to Albany, N.Y. to take on Sage. Tip-off with the Gators is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
