Dolphins Open Season With 3-0 Sweep Of York (N.Y.)
Guerrero, Hockenjos reach double-figures in kills

David Guerrero posted a match-high 17 kills in the 2010 season opener.
Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Volleyball team opened the 2010 season with a 3-0 win over York (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins swept the match by scores of 30-26, 30-28 and 30-16. Junior David Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.) and senior Rob Hockenjos (West Hempstead, N.Y.) led the way with 17 and 10 kills respectively.

Guerrero hit .312 in the match and converted 17 kills in 32 attacks for the Dolphins in the season opener. He also registered a service ace, four digs and a block assist for Mount Saint Vincent.

Hockenjos also turned in a solid effort for the Dolphins putting away 10 kills in the winning effort. He also collected six digs for the Mount to go along with three assists. Chris Bacchi (Hicksville, N.Y.) and Matt Krauszer (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) each collected eight kills on the afternoon with Krauszer also lifting a team-high eight digs.

Junior Michael Quinn (Wantagh, N.Y.) posted a match-high 35 assists in the contest and also chipped in with two kills, two aces, three defensive digs and a solo block. Michael Sin (Hicksville, N.Y.) led the team with three service aces.

As a team Mount Saint Vincent hit .235 in the match and finished with 18 more kills then York. The Dolphins also finished with 10 aces to just two for the Cardinals who got both of theirs from Jeff Walcott.

The win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 1-0 on the season. The Dolphins will return to action again on Tuesday night when they travel to Skyline Conference rival NYU-POLY. The match with the Blue Jays is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
