Riverdale, N.Y. – Under new head coach Jason Torres ’98, ’00 the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Volleyball team will open defense of its 2009 Skyline Championship on Saturday against York (N.Y.). The Mount is coming off a 15-14 campaign last season, including a perfect 8-0 mark in the Skyline Conference.

2010 will mark the beginning of a new era in Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Volleyball, as Torres will return to his alma mater to guide the program that he saw win the Metro Conference in 1997 and the NECVA title a season later in 1998.

Torres will inherit an experienced squad in 2010 as all eight players on the rosters will be returners. Leading the experienced group will be senior Rob Hockenjos (West Hempstead, N.Y.) who posted team-highs of 231 kills and 59 total blocks in 2009. He also chipped in with 29 service aces and 292.5 total points as a junior a season ago. He was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week one time last season.

Junior David Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.) is back for his third season after posting 192 kills and 139 digs as a sophomore last season. Guerrero was the NECVA Metro Division Rookie of the Year in 2007 and has totaled 533 kills, 309 digs and 84 service aces over his two seasons in the blue and gold. Guerrero earned three Skyline Conference Player of the Week Awards as a sophomore.

Michael Quinn (Wantagh, N.Y.) is also returning for his junior season as the team’s primary setter in 2010. As a sophomore last season he posted 372 assists and 63 digs for the Dolphins.

A pair of sophomores will also play a key role for the Dolphins in 2010. Back for their second seasons are opposite Matt Krauszer (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and outside hitter/libero Chris Bacchi (Hicksville, N.Y.). Krauszer posted 190 winners in his rookie campaign and lifted 177 digs for the Dolphins. He won the Skyline Conference’s first Rookie of the Week award in 2009.

Bacchi saw action in 83 sets as a freshman and chipped in with 37 kills for the Mount. He also lifted 117 digs for the Dolphins.

The Mount will play a challenging schedule in 2010 which includes trips to Cincinnati, Ohio and Cambridge, Mass. The Dolphins will play a nine match NECVA Metro Division schedule which kicks off on February1 against Stevens. They will also complete in eight Skyline Conference matches.
