The Dolphins opened the contest scoring nine of the first 10 points to open an eight point advantage in the first six and a half minutes of the game. NYU-POLY did not score a point until a free-throw from Shelby Bruns at the 14:25 mark of the period and did not convert a field goal until a Stephanie Negrotti jumper just over a minute later.
After opening the early eight point lead the Dolphins went just over seven minutes without a point and allowed a 10-0 run by the Blue Jays and then lost the lead with 5:13 left in the period.
The Dolphins rebounded and closed the half with 14 of the final 18 points to head into the break with a nine point lead at 27-18.
For the half, Mount Saint Vincent held the Blue Jays to just 19.4-percent shooting on 36 attempts. The Dolphins shot an even 30-percent in the opening twenty minutes, with Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, N.Y.) leading the way with seven points including a triple at the buzzer to close the half.
Overall for the half the Dolphins were 9-30 from the floor and 3-15 from three point range. Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) led the Mount with 10 rebounds in the opening stanza.
The Blue Jays sliced the Mount lead to five in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Dolphins slowly extended the lead to double figures on an Andree DeLeon (Flushing, N.Y.) jumper with just under 10 minutes to play in regulation.
NYU-POLY would get its deficit down to eight points in the final 7:12, but the Dolphins pushed its advantage to a game-high 16 points on a Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) lay-in with 3:09 left in regulation. Bruns hit a jumper in the final minute to pull NYU-POLY to within the final 13 point decision.
Mount Saint Vincent held the Blue Jays to just 25.4-percent shooting in the contest, including 3-16 from Margaux Pickell and 2-13 shooting from Kristen Leitheuser. NYU-POLY made just one three pointer in the game and went 10-22 from the free-throw line. Pickell finished with eight points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
After being outrebounded in the early going on Saturday, Mount Saint Vincent finished with a 51-44 edge on the glass and outscored its opponent 23-11 in second chance opportunities. Heesemann led the way with a game-high 15 boards and recorded a double-double with 11 points. McNish came off the bench to post nine rebounds and six points.
Percodani finished the afternoon 4-8 from the floor and 3-5 from long range for the Mount and also handed out four assists and swiped three steals. Koerner added 11 points and three rebounds for the Dolphins.
The win pushes the Mount to 8-4 overall on the season and to 5-1 in league play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Tuesday on the road at Farmingdale St. Tip-off with the Rams is set for 6:00 p.m.
