The Dolphins first four field goals of the night came from behind the arc, with Mocanu draining two of her four in that stretch. The Mount opened an eight point lead in the early going before a nearly four minute scoring drought allowed the Golden Eagles to pull within one point at 14-13 with 10:17 left in the half.
Mount Saint Vincent would lose the lead for the only time in the contest after a Trish McMahon jumper with 5:34 remaining before the intermission. The Dolphins quickly regained the lead for good in the game on a Koerner jumper and extended their lead to five going in to halftime following a Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) jumper in the final half minute.
Mocanu led all scorers at the break with 11 points on 4-9 shooting, but the Mount as a team finished the period shooting just 25.7-percent from the floor. The Dolphins made one more field goal overall in the half the St. Joseph’s and three more triples to hold the lead at the break.
The Dolphins extended their lead to double-figures in the first four minutes of the second half after a Brady triple pushed them in front by 11 at 32-21. St. Joseph’s would close to within nine points midway through the period, but the Mount responded with an 8-2 spurt to jump in front by 15 with 7:39 left in regulation.
Mocanu finished the second half with 18 points on 6-13 shooting overall, including a three pointer to go along with five free throws. Her final line saw her go 4-11 from behind the arc and also chip in five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Brady finished the contest 3-7 overall and also pulled in five rebounds to go along with a pair of steals and a blocked shot. Koerner nailed three triples for the Dolphins who shot 35.7-percent from distance and just 31.3-percent overall. The Mount also struggled from the charity stripe, going just 9-20.
Lauren Perocdani (Staten Island, N.Y.) had a solid all around game for the Mount, setting a career-high with 10 rebounds and also dishing out seven assists. She swiped three steals and knocked down a three pointer for the Dolphins. Heesemann led all players with a game-high 13 rebounds.
The win is Mount Saint Vincent’s second straight in league play and moves it to 7-4 overall and to 4-1 in Skyline play. The Dolphins will return home to play NYU-POLY on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
Post Game Notes: It is the second straight game the Dolphins have shot under 50-percent from the free-throw line…Mocanu has scored at least 20 points four times this season, including twice in the Mount’s last three games.
