Women’s Basketball Bested By Millikin At Cruzin’ Classic In Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Basketball team was defeated by Millkin on Saturday as part of the Cruzin’ Classic by a score of 59-39. Two Dolphins scored in double figures in the contest, with senior Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) leading the way with 16 points.

The Dolphins struggled from the floor the whole game on Saturday, shooting just 26.2-percent for the game and just 9.5-percent from three point range. Still, the game was tightly contested for much of the first half until Millkin used a 13-2 run to open a 16 point lead late in the first half. A Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, N.Y.) three-pointer, one of two for the Mount on the afternoon, cut the deficit to 13 points heading into the intermission.

The Big Blue opened the second half with a quick 8-0 spurt to push its lead to 22 and its advantage would not get fewer then 19 points for the remainder of the contest. A three pointer by Millikin’s Kaitlin Brassil pushed the lead to a game-high 27 points with just under seven minutes left to play.

Overall the Big Blue shot just 39.7-percent from the floor for the game, but made 10 three pointers to just two for Mount Saint Vincent. Millikin had three players in double figures in the game with Elise Wildman leading the way with a game-high 20 points. She also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.

Mount Saint Vincent shot just 16-61 from the field overall on Saturday and just 2-21 from behind the arc. Neither team had many opportunities at the free-throw line with the Dolphins going 5-7 and Millikin going 3-4.

Heesemann finished the game 6-11 from the field to go along with a team-high nine rebounds and a blocked shot. Percodani made both of the Mount’s threes in the game on her way to 12 points and five boards.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent back to .500 on the season at 4-4. The Dolphins will conclude play in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday morning when they take on Curry College. Tip-off is set for 10:00 a.m.
