| Mount Saint Vincent graduate Jason Torres '98 '00 will take over the men's volleyball program in 2010. |
Torres began his athletic career at Mount Saint Vincent in 1995 as a member of the men’s soccer program for two years. He then moved on to play for the Dolphins’ men’s volleyball squad for his final three years and competed for two conference championships. The Dolphins won the Metro Conference in 1997 and then the Northeast Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) in 1998.
“I am eager for this new opportunity,” the new coach said. “I am glad to be back at Mount Saint Vincent and I am looking to give back to the program that gave me so much during my playing career.”
Following his time at the Mount, Torres moved on to become a faculty member and current Department Chair for the Computing and Communications Department at the Horace Mann School in the Bronx. In 2003 he took over the girl’s volleyball program at the school and went on to win a pair of Ivy League Championships in 2007 and then again in 2009.
Over the past four years leading the girl’s program at Horace Man, Torres has mentored 13 All-Ivy League Players and posted an impressive 70-17 record. In 2008 his squad was the New York State runner-up.
In helping build the girl’s program into an elite team, Torres introduced video taping and web based game video for his players. He also oversees the other teams in the program, including the junior varsity and 7th and 8th grade teams. He serves as the Ivy League Representative for the state selection committee.
“We are very excited to have Jason on board,” explained Macias. “His knowledge of the program and his experience as alumni will bring a new and exciting look to our program. Jason will help bring together the past, present and future of Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Volleyball.”
Torres, who received his Bachelor’s Degree from Mount Saint Vincent in 1998 and his Master’s of Science from Mount Saint Vincent in Urban/Multicultural Education in 2000, is both USA Volleyball IMPACT and CAP Level I certified.
He currently resides in Yorktown Heights, N.Y.
