The Week Ahead: The Dolphins will play their only game of the week on Wednesday, December 9 when they head to Skyline rival Old Westbury. Tip-off with the Panthers is slated for 7:00 p.m.

Scouting Old Westbury: Old Westbury will enter play on Wednesday with a perfect 5-0 overall record and a 2-0 mark in Skyline Conference contests. The Panthers are led by five players who score in double-figures on the season, including Krystina Agard who paces the team with 19.2 points per game. She is shooting just over 53-percent from the floor and is 21-23 from the free throw line. She also leads the team in assists with 6.6 per contest. Agard is also good for 5.0 rebounds per game and 2.2 blocks. Brittany Jones is the team’s leading rebounder with 8.8 a contest.

A Look Back: Old Westbury is coming off of two straight wins heading into Wednesday’s contest. The Panthers downed Yeshiva 90-50 and Bard 70-36 last week.

Mount Saint Vincent split its two league games last week, cruising past Yeshiva 102-66 but then falling to Skyline Preseason favorite Mount Saint Mary in its home opener 67-45.

New Season, New Home: The Dolphins will move from their old home court into the brand new Peter Jay Sharp Center for the 200-10 season. The Mount’s home opener will be on December 3 against Skyline favorite Mount Saint Mary.

Meet The Newcomers: The Dolphins lost just one payer from last season’s team, but will welcome in five players who were not on last season’s roster. Joining the team in 2009-10 are seniors Ciara Clarke and Jill Brady and freshmen Brianna Mooney, Rocio Camacho and Andree DeLeon.

Senior Leadership: After having just one senior on last season’s team, head coach Gerald Davis will lean on the leadership of five seniors this season, including two time First Team All-Skyline selection Lauren Percodani and 1,000 point scorers Courtney Heesemann and Karissa Koerner.

Dolphins in the Sunshine State: Mount Saint Vincent will be traveling to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. over the semster break to take on Curry College and Millikin in the Cruzin Classic.

All-Skyline Recognition: Senior guard Lauren Percodani was First Team All-Skyline selection following the 2008-09 season. It marked the second straight year she was honored on the league’s First Team.

Preseason Predictions: The Dolphins were picked to finish second in the 2009-10 Skyline Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Mount garnered a pair of first place nods and trailed only 10-time defending league champion Mount Saint Mary in the poll.

Busy Start: The Dolphins will hit the ground running to start the 2009-10 season. The Mount will open on November 19 at Rowan which will be the first of three games in three days. Following the Rowan contest the Dolphins will play the next two games at the NYU Tip-Off Tournament.

1,000 point club: Mount Saint Vincent had two players record their 1,000th career point in 2008-09. Courtney Heesemann reached the milestone on 1/22/09 against Old Westbury, while Karissa Koerner recorded her historic point on 2/14/09 against Purchase.

Postseason x3?: The Dolphins have reached the postseason the past two seasons. Each year they have competed in the ECAC Division III Metro Tournament. They have posted an 0-2 record in their history in the postseason.

3-pointer streak: The Dolphins have made at least one 3-point field goal in their last 105 contests. The last time the Mount failed to convert a 3-point goal was on January 4, 2006 against St. Joseph’s-L.I.

Standout Rookies: Mount Saint Vincent had two players combine to win the Skyline Rookie of the Week award five times in 2008-09. Jen Mocanu won the award four times, while Ashley Ruiz earned the recognition once.

Streaking: After winning back-to-back games just one time in the first 11 games, the Dolphins reeled off 12 wins in their final 17 games, including winning streaks of three games twice and a season-high four games from 2/4 - 2/14.

All-Tournament Team: After scoring a game-high 20 points in the consolation game of the New York University Tip-Off Tournament, Karissa Koerner was recognized with All-Tournament Team honors.

Free Throws: After shooting just 61.9-percent as a team from the free throw line last season, the Dolphins are currently second in the Skyline Conference in the category at 67.1-percent. The Mount is led by Courtney Heesemann who is shooting just over 72-percent over the first five games.

Why Dolphins?: During the early 1980's, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics adopted "Dolphins" as the official Mount Saint Vincent mascot with the ideal set forth that our Student-Athletes would exhibit the traits of a Dolphin in their athletics endeavors. Since mythical times, the Dolphin has been considered the most intelligent of water-dwelling animals because of their ability to communicate via a language.   On January 29, 2005, at halftime of the Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Basketball game against Manhattanville College, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics unveiled its new Brand Identity and Logo. The selection of the new Brand was the latest step in the evolution of the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphin.

Home Court Advantage: Last season the Mount enjoyed success at Hayes Gymnasium, posting a 9-2 record overall and an 8-1 mark against league opponents. The Dolphins will look to keep that going in the Sharp Center in 2009-10.
