Dolphins Tripped Up By Skyline Preseason Favorite Mount Saint Mary
Mocanu, Percodani led the way with nine points

Lauren Percodani haned out a team-high four assists on Thursday.
Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Basketball team was upended by Skyline Conference Preseason Favorite Mount Saint Mary by a score of 67-45 on Thursday night. Senior Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, N.Y.) and sophomore Jen Mocanu (Middletown, N.J.) paced the offensive attack with nine points each.

The first half was tightly contested with the two teams exchanging the lead with neither side holding an advantage greater then four points until the visiting Blue Knights used a 9-2 run to pull ahead 32-26 heading into halftime. Mount Saint Mary shot 48-percent from the floor in the period, while the Dolphins went just 8-28 from the floor and 4-14 from three point range.

Mount Saint Mary methodically pulled away in the second frame, keyed by a 10-0 run over the first 6:37 of the second half. The lead never dropped below double figures from that point and grew to as many as 25 on a Jess Tice lay-in with just under two minutes left to play. The Dolphins converted just six field goals in the half and went only 1-13 from long distance.

Mount Saint Mary’s (4-2, 2-0 Skyline) Shannon Sangster led all scores with 20 points on 8-11 shooting. 14 of her 20 came in the second frame when she converted five of her six field goal attempts. Catie Biordi chipped in with 11 points and four assists for the Blue Knights and Chrissy Zrowka posted six points, six rebounds and a game-high six assists. Mount Saint Mary finished the night shooting 51.1-percent from the floor and 90.5-percent (19-21) from the free-throw line. Overall Mount Saint Mary assisted on 19 of its 23 field goals.

The Dolphins converted on just 25.5-percent of their field goal attempts and shot 18.5-percent from distance overall. Mount Saint Vincent also struggled from the free throw line, going just 12-21 in the contest. Mount Saint Vincent was also bested on the boards 43-28. Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) finished with eight points and six rebounds, while Percodani handed out a team-high four assists.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 3-2 overall on the season and to 1-1 in league play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on December 9 when they travel to Old Westbury. Tip-off with the Panthers is set for 7:00 p.m.

Post Game Notes: Thursday was the 105th straight game with a three point field goal for the Mount…Since 2003-04 the Dolphins have lost 13 straight decisions to Mount Saint Mary…The Blue Knights outscored the Dolphins in the paint 28-10.
