2/17/2007 - Junior Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond's) notched his ninth double-double of the 2006-07 season with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and the Mount Saint Vincent freshman class combined for 44 points, but the Mount's Men's Basketball team ended the 2006-07 season with a 112-58 loss to Farmingdale State during a game played at Farmingdale State on Saturday. With the loss, the Mount finishes the season with a 3-22 overall record and 1-15 in Skyline Conference play, but the fact that the Mount won twice during their final five games and pushed powerhouses Stevens and Old Westbury to their limits during the last two weeks of play means that a very young Dolphin team without a single senior will have a lot going for them as the 2007-08 season approaches.
2/15/2007 - There is something about the number 11 that is magic for the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team. A year ago, #11 for Mount Saint Vincent became the all-time leading scorer in the history of the program en route to a second straight First Team All-Conference campaign. On Thursday night, the magic returned as on "Throwback Thursday" sophomore Tim Biolsi (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) wore the same #11 jersey ... and played the best game of his young career. Biolsi's career-high 32 points paced the Mount, who went toe-to-toe with the Skyline Conference's #3 team, but unfortunately a terrific effort was not enough as Old Westbury raced out to a double-digit lead early and held off the Mount, 108-93 during Mount Saint Vincent's final home game of the 2006-07 season.
2/13/2007 - Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball freshman Kevin Garlan (Jackson Heights, NY/Archbishop Molloy) was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week this week after a tremendous stretch during which the Mount finished 1-2. During a Monday loss to Skyline Conference powerhouse Stevens that was far closer than the final score indicated, a Thursday win over Green Mountain College, and a Saturday loss to St. Joseph's (LI), the forward averaged 13.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game. Garlan is the second Dolphin to earn Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week this season.
4/16/2006 - Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) was named to the Division III All-Met Men’s Basketball team this week after an incredible final campaign at the Mount in which he became the all-time leading scorer in school history. By being named to the All-Met Second Team, Mooney joins four other Skyline Conference Basketball stars who earned All-Met honors.
3/22/2006 - Mount Saint Vincent senior men’s basketball players James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep), Charles Hernandez (Bronx, NY/Msgr. Scanlan), and women’s basketball players Andrea DiNizo (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Masters) and Laura Bucci (Irvington, NY/Our Lady of Victory) will represent the Mount one final time on the hardwood on Wednesday night as they will participate in the inaugural Skyline-NJAC Senior Basketball game at New Jersey City University.
3/2/2006 - Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) and Women’s Basketball senior Andrea DiNizo (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Masters) were both named All-Conference by the Skyline Conference today after incredible seasons to end their respective careers in fine fashion. Mooney was named First Team All-Conference for the second consecutive season after earning Honorable Mention All-Conference as a sophomore, while DiNizo was named Honorable Mention All-Conference for her first ever Skyline Conference honor.
2/21/2006 - Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) was named the ECAC Metropolitan Player of the Week today, marking the third award garnered this week by the shooting guard , who averaged 35.5 points per game during a two-game stretch in which he became the all-time leading scorer in Mount Saint Vincent history. His week began with a 39-point effort during a 100-84 loss to Manhattanville on Tuesday. Four days later, during a must-win game, Mooney scored 32 points as the Dolphins ended the 2005-06 season with a 79-76 loss to Yeshiva.
2/20/2006 - Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week and to the PrestoSports/MBWA Honor Roll after concluding the 2005-06 season with the second highest point per game scoring week of his four-year career. Mooney averaged 35.5 points per game during a two-game stretch in which the Mount finished 0-2. His week began with a 39-point effort during a 100-84 loss to Manhattanville on Tuesday. Four days later, during a must-win game, Mooney scored 32 points as the Dolphins ended the 2005-06 season with a 79-76 loss to Yeshiva.
2/18/2006 - Hundreds of screaming basketball fans packed the Grace Athletics Center on Saturday night to not only witness one of the most significant moments in the history of Mount Saint Vincent Athletics, but to see what was manifestly the most important game in the lives of four Dolphin seniors who were honored prior to the game for Senior Night. And while every one of those fans were given a seat … all they needed was the edge.
2/15/2006 - Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) entered Tuesday night’s crucial Skyline Conference game at Manhattanville so close to becoming the all-time leading scorer in Mount Saint Vincent history that he could almost taste it. 62 points away from the record with only two games to play, Mooney set out to narrow the gap even further between second place and Mount Saint Vincent Basketball immortality against a Manhattanville team that downed the Mount by 47 points on Dec. 20. By the way Mooney played during the first half on Tuesday, he nearly shattered the record a game ahead of schedule as he turned in one of his finest efforts of the season.
2/11/2006 - Moments after the conclusion of Saturday’s Men’s Basketball game between Mount Saint Vincent and Farmingdale State, two things were crystal clear: The Dolphins are going to be a very dangerous team should they advance to the Skyline Conference playoffs, and senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) is going to make the final week of his storied career one to remember. The senior scored a team-high 39 points and became the second men’s basketball player in Mount Saint Vincent history to break 1,700 career points, but the Dolphins dropped their second consecutive game, 91-79 to the Skyline Conference leading Rams during a game played at Farmingdale State.
2/6/2006 - The curtain may be closing on the storied basketball career of Mount Saint Vincent senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep), but if his final three games are anything like his performance on Monday night, his run at the Mount will not end quietly. For the sixth time this season and second time during his last three games, Mooney broke the 30-point mark on Monday, scoring a game-high 35 points, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team lost for the second straight game, 92-83 to Medgar Evers during a game played at Medgar Evers.
2/4/2006 - Senior Charles Hernandez (Bronx, NY.Msgr. Scanlan) notched his fifth double-double of the 2005-06 season with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep), Greg Casey (Mount Vernon, NY/Blessed Sacrament), and Corey Petruccelli (Stratford, CT/ St. Joseph) each scored in double figures, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team saw their three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, 86-73 at the hands of Stevens during a game played at Mount Saint Vincent.
2/1/2006 - When all is said and done, and the 2005-06 Men’s Basketball season is over, whether or not Mount Saint Vincent advances to the Skyline Conference playoffs may ultimately be secondary to the lesson that current and future members of the team have learned since shortly after 2006 began . It was only 27 days ago that an 86-76 loss to St. Joseph’s (LI) represented the team’s seventh straight loss and dropped the Mount to 3-9, virtually eliminating the Dolphins from post-season contention. But instead of packing it in and planning for the future, first year Head Coach Michael Murphy challenged his team to come together and make the season a success. The Mount responded, and Wednesday night was the greatest proof yet that Mount Saint Vincent is officially the most dangerous team in the Skyline Conference.
1/27/2006 - If ever an argument existed that the Skyline Men’s Basketball Conference should change scheduling formats so that each team plays each other twice per season, Friday night’s contest between Mount Saint Vincent and Maritime College will almost certainly lend credibility to the cause. It was 40 minutes that featured everything expected of a conference game late in the season – end-to-end action in front of a packed gymnasium, a thrilling comeback, career-best performances, and an intensity that can only be described as playoff-like. Despite one of their worst starts to a game of the 2005-06 season, Mount Saint Vincent chipped away at a 17-point first half deficit and overcame Maritime College, 85-79, to win in dramatic fashion for the second straight game.
1/23/2006 - An outstanding week of play has led to the first-ever accolade from the Skyline Conference for Mount Saint Vincent sophomore Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond’s), who was named to the Skyline Conference Honor Roll after averaging 13 points and 12.5 rebounds per game during a 12 week for the Mount. During a 76-59 loss to Stevens on Monday and a 77-71 win over FDU-Florham on Thursday, Charlton registered double-doubles.
1/19/2006 - When Michael Murphy took the position as Mount Saint Vincent’s Head Men’s Basketball Coach in October, he had to envision that he would have nights like this one on the sidelines. A tight, end-to-end game featuring fast breaks, three pointers, and a dramatic late-game rally to win an incredible game in a hostile gym. Little did Murphy know that the most dramatic victory of his coaching career would come with perhaps the youngest line-up he has ever seen. Using a six-man rotation consisting almost primarily of freshmen and sophomores, the Mount overcame a 34-31 halftime deficit and rallied to score the game’s final 11 points to defeat host FDU-Florham, 77-71.
1/16/2006 - Mount Saint Vincent freshman Tim Biolsi (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) scored a career-high 17 points, and sophomore Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond’s) chipped in the first double-double of his career with 10 points and 10 rebounds, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team lost its second straight game, 76-59 to Stevens in a game played at Stevens on Monday night.
1/14/2006 - It seems like every time the Mount Saint Mary Men’s Basketball travels to Mount Saint Vincent, something wild is bound to happen. Last season’s edition of one of the biggest rivalries in the Skyline Conference was one of the best games of the year conference-wide with Mount Saint Mary escaping with a 115-107 win on Feb. 2, 2005. Nearly a year later, the game was not as close, but it was every bit as wild with the two teams combining for 204 points. Mount Saint Mary used a tremendous shooting first half to build a 68-40 lead after 20 minutes, and cruised to a 115-89 win over Mount Saint Vincent for their eighth straight win.
1/12/2006 - Mount Saint Vincent senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) scored a game-high 25 points – 19 during the first half of play – and sophomore Corey Petrucelli (Stratford, CT/St. Joseph’s) and senior Greg Casey (Mount Vernon, NY/Blessed Sacrament) each scored 12 points as the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team won its third straight game, 72-68 over host Polytechnic on Thursday night.
1/9/2006 - The Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball season is officially on track. 48 hours after ending a seven-game losing streak, the Dolphins jumped right back into the Skyline Conference playoff hunt with a stunning 82-77 win over King's Point during a game played at Mount Saint Vincent. Senior Greg Casey (Mount Vernon, NY/Blessed Sacrament) scored a career-high 26 points and fellow senior Charles Hernandez (Bronx, NY/Msgr. Scanlan) added his third triple-double of the 2005-06 season as the Dolphins won their second consecutive game.
1/9/2006 - Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) has been named to the honor roll of the Metropolitan Basketball Writer’s Association (MBWA) for the third time this season after another fine week of play last week. While Mount Saint Vincent finished the week with a 1-2 record, things were nearly drastically different thanks to the heroics of Mooney, who scored his 1,500th career point last week.
1/7/2006 - Facing the prospects of an eighth straight loss and a possible 1-5 start in Skyline Conference play, Mount Saint Vincent senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) not only took over Saturday’s Men’s Basketball game at Centenary, he made history as well. Mooney scored a game-high 37 points on 14 for 22 shooting, including the 1,500th point of his storied career, to lead the Mount past Centenary, 93-69.
1/4/2006 - Two nights after their finest defensive performance of the 2005-06 season during a 78-71 overtime loss to NYU, Mount Saint Vincent was unable to repeat the effort on Wednesday night, dropping their seventh straight game, 86-76 to St. Joseph’s (LI) during a game played at St. Joseph’s. With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 3-9 overall and 1-4 in the Skyline Conference.
1/2/2006 - Facing a five-game losing streak in which they lost by an average of more than 27 points per game, and opening the New Year with arguably the toughest team on their schedule, Coach Michael Murphy and the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team could have easily let undefeated NYU control their January 2 encounter. And when the Dolphins trailed by 16 points in the first half, it seemed as if that were going to happen. However, during an incredible display of pure grit and tenacity that could very quickly turn the 2005-06 season around, the Mount gave their national powerhouse foe all they could handle, storming back to force overtime.
12/22/2005 - As a senior in High School, James Mooney didn’t think much about playing college basketball. That year he helped his team at Iona Prep in New Rochelle win a city championship, but the guard’s efforts cam off the bench where the sixth man was asked to play a backup role for the talented Gaels.
12/20/2005 - Senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) scored a team-high 14 points and moved into sole possession of third place on the list of all-time leading scorers in Mount Saint Vincent history, and fellow senior Greg Casey (Mount Vernon, NY/Blessed Sacrament) added 11 points, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team lost its fifth straight game, 106-59 to Manhattanville during a Skyline Conference game played at Mount Saint Vincent.
12/15/2005 - For the fourth consecutive game, the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team went toe-to-toe with one of the toughest teams on their schedule during the first half of play, and left the floor for halftime thinking that had a chance to score a major win … and for the fourth consecutive game, the Dolphins quickly saw the early optimism erode into a double-digit loss. On Wednesday night, Yeshiva was the latest team to turn in a commanding second half performance, outscoring the Mount 47-26 during the final 20 minutes en route to a 76-54 Macs win.
12/13/2005 - On Tuesday, Dec. 13, Michael Murphy was officially introduced to the energy and excitement that is New York City Basketball. The Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball Head Coach attended the monthly luncheon of the Metropolitan Basketball Writer's Association (MBWA) at Madison Square Garden where he was invited to discuss his first season at the Dolphin helm, the team’s progress, and their prospects for the rest of the 2005-06 season in front of members of the New York City area media, and the Head Coaches of the College programs from the New York City metropolitan area.
12/13/2005 - For the second time during the last three weeks, Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) was named to the Honor Roll of the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) for his outstanding play during an 0-2 week for the Dolphins. Mooney – who was named to the MBWA Honor Roll four times last season – averaged 29 points, six rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game as the Mount lost to New England powerhouse Westfield State and Skyline Conference rival, Old Westbury.
12/12/2005 - Senior Greg Casey (Mount Vernon, NY/Blessed Sacrament) scored 13 points and had a team-high five rebounds, and sophomore Corey Petrucelli (Stratford, CT/St. Joseph’s) added 12 points, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team lost its third straight game, 87-52 to NJAC powerhouse Rutgers-Newark in a game played at Mount Saint Vincent.
12/8/2005 - It was simply a tale of two halves as the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team played one of its best and most balanced halves to open their Skyline Conference game at Old Westbury on Thursday night, only to play their worst half of the season during the final 20 minutes. As a result, a 35-32 halftime lead quickly erased, and the Dolphins fell to 1-1 in the Conference with an 86-62 loss to the Panthers.
12/6/2005 - Mount Saint Vincent senior Men’s Basketball player Charles Hernandez (Bronx, NY/Msgr. Scanlan) was named to D3Hoops.com Team of the Week this week after one of the finest weeks of his career during a 2-1 stretch for the Dolphins.
12/5/2005 - Mount Saint Vincent senior Men’s Basketball player Charles Hernandez (Bronx, NY/Msgr. Scanlan) was named to the honor roll by both the Skyline Conference and Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) after one of the finest weeks of his career last week in leading the Mount to a 2-1 record.
12/5/2005 - Senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) scored a game-high 37 points and added eight rebounds, and fellow senior Greg Casey (Mount Vernon, NY/Blessed Sacrament) chipped in 21 points, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team fell to New England powerhouse Westfield State (Mass.), 96-77 in a game played at Mount Saint Vincent.
12/3/2005 - Senior Charles Hernandez (Bronx, NY/Msgr. Scanlan) notched his second consecutive triple-double, and fellow seniors James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) and Greg Casey (Mount Vernon, NY/Blessed Sacr ament) combined for 52 points as the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team won its second consecutive game, 109-75 over Centenary College in its Skyline Conference opener at Mount Saint Vincent.
12/1/2005 - Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball senior guard James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep HS) was named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week this week after an incredible stretch during the Mount’s first two games of the 2005-06 season. The Mount opened the season with a 108-42 win over Pratt on Nov. 19, and then lost 91-82 to York three days later. Mooney was nothing short of sensational during that stretch, averaging 36.5 points, five rebounds, six assists, and 3.5 steals per game.
11/30/2005 - It was the “Battle of the Bronx” and it lived up to its billing in every way. The borough’s only two Division III Men’s Basketball teams went head-to-head in a run-and-gun battle that never seemed to slow down. Ultimately, it was a pair of Bronx natives who played crucial roles in a stunning upset as the College of Mount Saint Vincent downed their neighbors to the east, 91-71, to improve to 2-2.
11/29/2005 - Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball senior guard James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep HS) opened the 2005-06 season the same way he ended things a year ago – as one of the premiere players in a very strong Skyline Conference as Mooney was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week this week after an incredible start to his senior campaign.
11/28/2005 - Four Dolphins scored in double figures and senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep HS) broke 20 points for the third straight games, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team lost their second straight game, 85-68 to Baruch in a game played at Mount Saint Vincent. With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 1-2 this season while Baruch improves to 4-1.
11/22/2005 - Mount Saint Vincent senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) enjoyed the finest performance of his storied career, and fellow senior Charles Hernandez (Bronx, NY/Msgr. Scanlan) added a double-double, but the effort fell short as the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team dropped a 91-82 thriller to York College on Tuesday night at York.
11/22/2005 - Some people coach for the glory of the game. Others do it to give back to the sport and those who participate in it. Then there are the chosen few who work their way into coaching because it was what they are born to do. Michael Murphy is one of these coaches. Son of a basketball coaching legend, brother of a basketball lifer, Murphy’s quiet intensity and unbridled passion for his craft simply oozes the fact that he is now in the very place he set out to reach … at the helm of a college basketball program.
11/19/2005 - Mount Saint Vincent senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep HS) scored 31 points and added six assists, and sophomore Corey Petrucelli (Stratford, CT/St. Joseph’s) added his first career double-double in his first career start as the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team opened the 2005-06 season with a convincing 108-42 win over the Pratt Institute in a game played at Mount Saint Vincent.
11/11/2005 - Mount Saint Vincent Director of Athletics, Cathy Ingram has announced the hiring of Chase Licata as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach. Licata graduated from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science this past May.
