Charlton notches ninth double-double of 2006-07 season; MSV freshmen combine for 44 points
Derek Charlton2/17/2007 - Junior Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond's) notched his ninth double-double of the 2006-07 season with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and the Mount Saint Vincent freshman class combined for 44 points, but the Mount's Men's Basketball team ended the 2006-07 season with a 112-58 loss to Farmingdale State during a game played at Farmingdale State on Saturday. With the loss, the Mount finishes the season with a 3-22 overall record and 1-15 in Skyline Conference play, but the fact that the Mount won twice during their final five games and pushed powerhouses Stevens and Old Westbury to their limits during the last two weeks of play means that a very young Dolphin team without a single senior will have a lot going for them as the 2007-08 season approaches. Dolphins conclude 2006-07 season with trip to Farmingdale State on Saturday
Tim Biolsi2/15/2007 - There is something about the number 11 that is magic for the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team. A year ago, #11 for Mount Saint Vincent became the all-time leading scorer in the history of the program en route to a second straight First Team All-Conference campaign. On Thursday night, the magic returned as on "Throwback Thursday" sophomore Tim Biolsi (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) wore the same #11 jersey ... and played the best game of his young career. Biolsi's career-high 32 points paced the Mount, who went toe-to-toe with the Skyline Conference's #3 team, but unfortunately a terrific effort was not enough as Old Westbury raced out to a double-digit lead early and held off the Mount, 108-93 during Mount Saint Vincent's final home game of the 2006-07 season. Kevin Garlan2/13/2007 - Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball freshman Kevin Garlan (Jackson Heights, NY/Archbishop Molloy) was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week this week after a tremendous stretch during which the Mount finished 1-2. During a Monday loss to Skyline Conference powerhouse Stevens that was far closer than the final score indicated, a Thursday win over Green Mountain College, and a Saturday loss to St. Joseph's (LI), the forward averaged 13.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game. Garlan is the second Dolphin to earn Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week this season. More...
Charlton scores 18 points, Garlan adds 11, Dolphins outscore SJC 43-42 during second half
Derek Charlton2/10/2007 - Junior Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond's) scored 18 points and added eight rebounds, and freshman Kevin Garlan (Jackson Heights, NY/Archbishop Molloy) added 11 points and seven rebounds, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team could not overcome an early deficit en route to a 76-61 loss to St. Joseph's (LI) on Saturday during a game played at St. Joseph's. With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 3-20 overall and 1-13 in Skyline Conference play. More...
Dolphins shoot 62% during outstanding second half, enjoy 41-30 rebounding advantage; St. Joseph's (LI) next
Corey Petruccelli2/8/2007 - You have to hand it to the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team ... when they win, they win big. Thursday night marked the Mount's third win of the 2006-07 campaign, all of which have come by margins of 20 points or more. The hard-fought, 70-49 win over Green Mountain (VT) College was significant not only because it improved the Mount to 3-19, but it also marked their second win during the last four games, giving the Dolphins the opportunity to end the season next week on a very high note. But Green Mountain, who travelled 239 miles to play tonight's game, did not make it easy. More...
Biolsi nets season-high 22 points, Charlton has monster game; Dolphins host Green Mountain on Thursday
2/5/2007 - The young Dolphins are growing up, and growing up quickly. Ony 48 hours after going toe-to-toe with Yeshiva University, the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team took to the court for a showdown with Skyline Conference leading Stevens Institute of Technology on Monday, two weeks after the Ducks routed the Mount by 24 points. During an incredible 33-minute run, Mount Saint Vincent out-ran, out-hustled, and outplayed their powerhouse counterpart, leading by as many as 11 points. Ultimately, the deeper and more physical Ducks ran away with a 91-76 win, but after Mount Saint Vincent carried play for most of the game on their home court, it is clear that the Dolphins are a strong competitor in the Skyline Conference.  More...
Biolsi scores 16 points for second straight game, Charlton adds 14 points; Dolphins host Skyline Conference leading Stevens on Monday night

With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 2-18 overall and 1-11 in Skyline Conference play. More...
Five Dolphins score in double figures as MSV shoots 51% and enjoys 59-29 rebounding edge; travel to Yeshiva on Saturday night
Tim Biolsi2/1/2007 - After nearly three months of seeing his squad hang tough with some of the best teams on their 2006-07 schedule, but find a way to lose, Mount Saint Vincent Head Coach Michael Murphy finally got his wish on Thursday night. Not only did the Mount score a 96-58 win over Centenary College to break a 16-game losing streak, but they turned in a performance of effort and execution that can only be described as the most impressive showing by a Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team during Murphy's two-year tenure as Head Coach. This wasn't just a win, it was complete domination as the Dolphins stopped competing like a young but talented team trying to learn the college game, and for a brief moment on Thursday night looked like they are destined to fulfill the potential that Murphy has been touting since the earliest days of the season. Junior averages 22.3 points, nine rebounds per game; named to All-Tournament team during Sig Makofski Tourney
Derek Charlton1/9/2007 - The finest week of the three-year playing career for Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball forward Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond's) has received notice, resulting in a major regional award for the Dolphin junior. After averagi ng 22.3 points and nine rebounds per game for the week, Charlton was named to the PrestoSports/Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association (MBWA) Honor Roll, marking the first time during his career he has been honored by the MBWA. Charlton's statistical week was a terrific week by just about any standards, but considering that all three games were against teams that participated in the 2006 NCAA Tournament, his numbers were downright unbelievable. Owens scores career-high 14 points; Garlan adds 18; Dolphins host Mount Saint Mary on Wednesday
1/6/2007 - When Mount Saint Vincent Head Men's Basketball Coach Michael Murphy looks back at this weekend's Sig Makofski Tournament at Union College, he may only see two more losses in a nine-game losing streak that has dropped a very young Mount team to 1-10 for the 2006-07 season. Then again, with all of the positives that were produced despite an 0-2 stretch this weekend - including a 91-78 loss to Elms College in the consolation game on Saturday - he may look at this weekend as the beginning of the end of the rebuilding process he inherited a a year and a half ago. During consecutive games against solid teams from Union College and Elms, the Mount hustled, battled, and at times shot the ball like a veteran team, when in fact a majority of the Mount's production came from freshmen. The results from the games may have been disappointing for the Dolphins, but the message that the young Mount team is ready to play no matter how strong the competition could be what the Mount brings back to Riverdale as Skyline Conference play commences this week. Derek Charlton1/2/2007 - The first games of 2007 for the Mount Saint Vincent Men's & Women's Basketball teams proved to be quite a challenge for the Dolphins on Tuesday afternoon as Mount Saint Vincent lost both ends of a doubleheader to national powerhouse NYU as the Men's team opened play with an 86-47 loss, while the Women's team fell 75-33. Biolsi scores game-high 20 points, Charlton adds 18, Dolphins off until '07
Tim Biolsi12/9/2006 - Three days after one of their most disappointing outings of the 2006-07 season, the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team took to the court on Saturday and, despite losing to the defending Skyline Conference Champions, Farmingdale State, put forth an effort that can only be described as enouraging as the Dolphins enter the 2007 portion of their schedule. 12/6/2006 - Freshman Marquise King's (Albany, NY/Albany HS) three-point attempt at the buzzer rattled in and out of the basket, giving Centenary College a 76-74 win over Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday night during a game played at Mount Saint Vincent. During an incredible game that featured eight ties and 15 lead changes, Centenary scored the win in the final seconds as Centenary's Kyle Warner (Severn, MD/Annapolis HS) hit a jumper with 0:03 seconds remaining in the game to give the Cyclones the lead. After a time-out, Mount Saint Vincent's long in-bounds pass was tipped out of bounds by Centenary, giving the Dolphins one final shot at a tie or win. The in-bounds pass to King was perfect, but King's long jumper barely missed allowing Centenary to improve to 2-4 and 1-1 in Skyline Conference play, while Mount Saint Vincent falls to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in Skyline Conference play. 11/27/2006 - There are approximately 97 regular season basketball games remaining in the career of Mount Saint Vincent freshman Marquise King (Albany, NY/Albany HS). And the way he is going, every one of them is going to be both memorable and noteworthy ... particularly if the "rest" of his career is anything like what he has already accomplished. For the second straight week, King, a shooting guard, was named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week after a show-stopping performance during a loss to powerhouse SUNY IT last Tuesday. King is the only Men's Basketball player in the Skyline Conference to earn Rookie of the Week honors this season having earned the honor both times it was awarded - and rightfully so. More...
Dolphins play tough to the end with SUNY powerhouse; Hunter College visits MSV on Monday
11/21/2006 - It's hard to believe it, but he's three games into his Mount Saint Vincent career and freshman Marquise King (Albany, NY/Albany HS) just scored 35 points and the effort was not a career-high. During another outstanding performance, King - this week's Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week after scoring 36 points during his collegiate debut last Friday at Eastern Connecticut State - scored 35 points on 14 for 25 shooting (including 7 for 11 from three-point range) and added four rebounds, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team lost 101-76 on Tuesday night to 2006 SUNY AC Finalist SUNY Institute of Technology (SUNY IT) during a game played at Mount Saint Vicnent. Dolphins outscore Warriors 46-42 during second half; face Mitchell College in consolation game on Saturday
11/18/2006 - A year ago, the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball season was defined by one man's pursuit of the career scoring record for the Dolphins. And while that headline came and went a long time ago, it seems that scoring records are going to be a common theme for one Mount Saint Vincent hoopster, particularly if he continues on the torrid pace he set for himself during his Mount Saint Vincent debut on Friday night. Freshman Marquise King (Albany, NY/Albany HS) scored a tournament record-tying 36 points, 29 of which came during the second half of play, as Mount Saint Vincent battled back from a 23-point second half deficit to lose to powerhouse Eastern Connecticut State, 75-69 during the first round of the Eastern Tip-off Tournament. With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent is now 0-1 and will face Mitchell College - who lost 99-81 to Elms in opening round action - in the consolation game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. More...

Senior scores 39 points, nets first double-double of 05-06; Dolphins outscored 46-37 during second half
James Mooney2/11/2006 - Moments after the conclusion of Saturday’s Men’s Basketball game between Mount Saint Vincent and Farmingdale State, two things were crystal clear: The Dolphins are going to be a very dangerous team should they advance to the Skyline Conference playoffs, and senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) is going to make the final week of his storied career one to remember. The senior scored a team-high 39 points and became the second men’s basketball player in Mount Saint Vincent history to break 1,700 career points, but the Dolphins dropped their second consecutive game, 91-79 to the Skyline Conference leading Rams during a game played at Farmingdale State. James Mooney2/6/2006 - The curtain may be closing on the storied basketball career of Mount Saint Vincent senior James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep), but if his final three games are anything like his performance on Monday night, his run at the Mount will not end quietly. Mooney scores 30 points during monster game; Casey adds 28 points; Dolphins win for sixth time in last eight games
James Mooney2/1/2006 - When all is said and done, and the 2005-06 Men’s Basketball season is over, whether or not Mount Saint Vincent advances to the Skyline Conference playoffs may ultimately be secondary to the lesson that current and future members of the team have learned since shortly after 2006 began . It was only 27 days ago that an 86-76 loss to St. Joseph’s (LI) represented the team’s seventh straight loss and dropped the Mount to 3-9, virtually eliminating the Dolphins from post-season contention. But instead of packing it in and planning for the future, first year Head Coach Michael Murphy challenged his team to come together and make the season a success. The Mount responded, and Wednesday night was the greatest proof yet that Mount Saint Vincent is officially the most dangerous team in the Skyline Conference. More...
Mooney scores 1,600th career point as Dolphins rally to win second straight, fifth time during last seven games
Greg Casey1/27/2006 - If ever an argument existed that the Skyline Men’s Basketball Conference should change scheduling formats so that each team plays each other twice per season, Friday night’s contest between Mount Saint Vincent and Maritime College will almost certainly lend credibility to the cause. It was 40 minutes that featured everything expected of a conference game late in the season – end-to-end action in front of a packed gymnasium, a thrilling comeback, career-best performances, and an intensity that can only be described as playoff-like. Using a six-man rotation consisting almost primarily of freshmen and sophomores, the Mount overcame a 34-31 halftime deficit and rallied to score the game’s final 11 points to defeat host FDU-Florham, 77-71.
