Clifton Park, N.Y. – Second year head coach Gerald Davis and his 2009-10 College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Basketball team have been picked to finish second in the Skyline Conference this season. The Dolphins received 71 total points and two of a possible 10 first place votes in the poll voted on by the league’s 10 head coaches.

10-time defending Skyline Conference Champion Mount Saint Mary was picked atop the poll with 80 total points and the eight remaining first place tallies. The Blue Knights posted a 24-5 overall record last season, including a perfect 18-0 mark against Skyline opponents. Mount Saint Mary returns its tops six scorers from last season.

The Dolphins are coming off a 16-12 season overall in 2008-09 and a 14-4 mark in league play. Mount Saint Vincent advanced to its second straight ECAC Division III Metro Tournament last season and returns four of its starters from that squad. Senior Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was the Mount’s top scorer last season at 13.8 points per game and was one of three, including Jen Mocanu (Middletown, N.J.) and Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), to average in double figures last season.

Heesemann led the Dolphins by pulling down 8.7 rebounds per game and fellow senior Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, N.Y.) turned in another solid campaign by posting 8.9 points, 3.4 boards and 4.7 assists per game. She was a First Team All-Skyline Conference selection for the second straight season as a junior.

Farmingdale St., who has eliminated the Mount from the Skyline Tournament the past two seasons, was picked third in the poll with 68 points. Old Westbury followed in fifth with 55 tallies and Purchase was sixth with 43 points.

Their were two ties in the poll this season, with NYU-POLY and St. Joseph’s-L.I. tying for sixth with 41 points and Bard and Sage tying for eighth with 20 points. Yeshiva rounded out the 10 team field with 11 points.

The Dolphins open the season with three games in three nights, starting with the opener at Rowan on November 19. The following night the Mount will travel to #19/23 New York University and then will play the consolation game of the NYU Tip-Off Tournament on November 21.
