11/12/2009 - The College of Mount Saint Vincent, along with other award winning chemistry chapters, will be honored at the 239th ACS National Meeting in San Francisco, CA on Sunday, March 21, 2010.  The student chapter of the American Chemical Society at the College of Mount Saint Vincent will receive a Commendable Award for its activities during the 2008-2009 academic year.

Two hundred and twenty two student chapters were presented awards for their chemistry reports for the 2008-2009 academic year out of the three hundred and sixty submitted.

For the Mount’s student chapter to be one of the recipients is an outstanding achievement for those participating students as well as the faculty advisor.

“It is a great honor. There are over 900 chapters in the US and we are one of 60 that got the award; there were only 30-40 that got outstanding” said Associate Professor Pamela Kerrigan, faculty advisor to the Mount’s student chapter of ACS.

The ACS is the world’s largest scientific society. There are student chapters throughout the nation.  ACS student chapters are organizations for undergraduate chemical science majors. Members participate in a wide range of programs and activities that aim to enhance their college experience and prepare them for successful careers.

Lists of award winning chapters will also be published in Chemical & Engineering News and inchemistry, the student member magazine.
