Dolphins Sink Eagles In Season Opener
400 free relay secures victory for the Mount

The Dolphins edged Saint Elizabeth in their season opener on Thursday.
Morristown, N.J. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Swimming team picked up a thrilling 58-56 victory at the College of Saint Elizabeth on Thursday night in its first meet of the season. The meet came down to the final event of the evening with the Dolphins’ 400-yard free style relay team posting the victory to secure the win.

The team of Andrea De La Torre (Valley Stream, N.Y.), Jeanette Marrocco, Angelica Iribarne (Hasbrouck Heights, N.Y.) and Amanda Costa (River Edge, N.J.) posted the win in a time of 4:59.44. De La Torre opened up a sizable lead for the Dolphins in the event, while Costa secured the win with a strong anchor leg.

Costa had a strong individual night as well for Mount Saint Vincent. The sophomore posted a pair of wins for the Dolphins, taking first in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:23.56 and then taking the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 7:02. 85.

De La Torre also picked up an individual win for the Dolphins in the 50-yard freestyle, besting the field in a time of 33.34 seconds. Iribarne also had a solid evening for the Mount, finishing second in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke.

The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 1-0 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in the pool again on Saturday when they travel to Sarah Lawrence for a non-conference meet. The swim is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
