Kristine DeMasi posted a career-high 13 kills at Mount Saint Mary.

Newburgh, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at fourth seeded Mount Saint Mary on Wednesday night in the quarterfinal round of the Skyline Conference Tournament. The Dolphins were defeated by set scores of 22-25, 17-25 and 21-25 by the Blue Knights. Freshman Kristine DeMasi (Bay Ridge, N.Y.) led the way for the Mount with a career and match-high 13 kills.

DeMasi finished the match with a .310 hitting percentage on Wednesday, committing just four attack errors in the contest. She also posted a service ace for the Dolphins and finished with 14 of the Mount’s 33 total team points in the contest.

Senior Lisa O’Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) finished with five kills for Mount Saint Vincent and also contributed with six defensive digs. Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, N.Y.) and Jessica Williams (Cornwall, N.Y.) each chipped in with four kills each for the Mount.

Senior Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) also had a strong match for the Dolphins, posting a pair of kills, an ace and two digs. She also equaled the match-high by handing out 27 assists. Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y.) finished the match with a service ace and a team-high 19 digs.

The Blue Knights advanced to the semifinal round of the league tournament by hitting .212 as a team and finishing off 36 total kills. Teresa Sorrentino led the Mount Saint Mary attack with 10 kills to go along with an ace and eight digs. Elizabeth Douress, Mary Ann Raftery and Lauren Halverson each posted seven kills in the winning effort.

Halverson led all players with 20 digs and three aces in the contest, while Heather Schaeffer lifted 10 digs for the Blue Knights. Katie Toole handed out 27 assists for Mount Saint Mary.

Overall in the match, Mount Saint Vincent hit .157 and posted 29 total kills. Mount Saint Mary held the edge in service aces 8-4 on Wednesday and in digs 60-34.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent’s overall record to 12-15 on the season.
