Dolphins Have Strong Showing At St. Joseph’s-L.I. Invitational
Women place seventh of 11 scoring teams

Mary Eileen Kiernan helped the Mount to a seventh place finish on Saturday.
Patchogue, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Cross Country teams had strong showings on a muggy Saturday afternoon at the St. Joseph’s-L.I. Invitational. Stephanie Widmer (Harrison, N.Y.) led the women’s squad to a seventh place finish, while Navin Purushotham (Orange, Conn.) paced the men’s squad with a 30th place finish.

Widmer was again Mount Saint Vincent’s top finisher on Saturday; as she finished the course in 23rd place overall out of 95 finishers in a time of 25:07. She was followed closely by Mary Eileen Kiernan (Rockaway Point, N.Y.) in the 28th position in a time of 25:14.

Rounding out the scoring five for the Dolphins were Ana Garcia (Kingwood, N.J.) in 46th place in a time of 26:43, Megan Brady (Washingtonville, N.Y.) in 47th place, showing a time of 26:49 and Jenna Boccafola (Wading River, N.Y.) in the 56th position in a time of 27:32.

Purushotham paced the incomplete men’s team with his 30th place showing out of 92 competitors in a time of 32:39. He was followed by Mahabir Samuel (Bronx, N.Y.) in 38th place with a time of 33:32 and Andrew Giordano (Staten Island, N.Y.) in 42nd place in a time of 34:01. Michael Coverdale (Yonkers, N.Y.) was the fourth Mount Saint Vincent runner to finish, as he crossed the line in the 63rd position in a time of 38:42.

The Dolphins will look to build on Saturday’s strong showing on Sunday, November 1 at the Skyline Conference Championships. The meet is set to be held at Van Cortlandt in Rivedale, N.Y.
